We saw masst destruction by Hurricane Charley in 2004. A direct hit will blow down a house but our former boat was still hanging on the davit lifts when we returned 6 weeks later. It was damaged but still there. Looked like bomb went off in Pt Charlotte and Charlotte County. The police station was blown down. awful stuff to see so many friends and others lose their home. My wife is in FL now, finishing up closing the home and securing it. Our boat in high on the lift. The best we can do without a trailer plus no worries. We can buy another one but cant replace The Admiral as we near 36 yrs of marriage.

It is all about location. everyone will get lots of rain. Wind speed depends where it hits landfall, directional speed, etc.

European model seems to be more accurate than others

The guy of the Weather Channel describes the details very well

Safe travels !

Beer situation low - had to make room for extra food.

Ironically I took my boat to have the trailer guys make some adjustments last week - it'll ride things out inside a shelter. Otherwise it would have been in a field exposed. Go figure - it'll be at 43' above sea level. I'm at 78'.
:thup

In the infamous words of Larry Munson - "Hunker down one more time." (GA vs AU.)

The beer situation is more critical than ammo! But we did have to discourage looting after Ivan--only one shotgun round was fired (not me)--

Hope your boat is in a concrete block building. We found that the metal buildings do not fair well in Cat 3.

Good luck--hang on.

Just heard, State of FL is planning to stop southbound traffic on I75 and making it northbound. I95 and I75 are very congested

safe travels

I hang with a bunch of military boys over here in TPA; they are big believers in the right to bear arms - preferably AR 15's. We'll see what happens to the boat - it's insured. It's a very serious metal and concrete building. Would hate to lose it after searching for 18 months, but it won't be the end of the world.

Dang storm just moved West. No good outcomes on this one - someone is going to take it on the chin. That said we made it threw Andrew, we'll make it through Irma. Just put up the hurricane panels up front - tomorrow around back.

Seems the hurricane gods must be appeased on this one...to boot we had a localized storm last night that dumped 3" of rain in about 1.5 hours with some wicked lightning. Zeus or Neptune are not happy.

We've stayed at the coast, with the storm is tracking inland in North Carolina. We watched and waited with everything prepped at the house and on the boat ready to head inland, where the storm is now headed. That's why we're glad that we didn't make our move till we had better information

I've been in 2 hurricanes in my life, both against my will, trapped like a rat in a
barrel under a waterfall (H Lenny in '99 and earlier H Iniki in '92).
Read an account of Wrong Way Lenny here
http://www.wetrekmd.com/trips/lenny/lenny2.htm

Knowing what I now know and seeing what I've seen with both miserable
frightening experiences, I can't imagine why anyone in their right mind would
choose to voluntarily stay in one's path if they had the opportunity and means
not to do so.

But that's really none of my business.

Aye.

I just want to say God speed and good luck. I hope you all stay safe and that somehow the storm is not as bad as projected.

Button down the hatches and leave, you don’t want to be stuck behind the 5+ million people ordered to evacuate.

Stay safe,
Harald

Maybe better would be to ask god why s/he sent the storm to kill and destroy in the first place!!

Stuff happens. Gotta deal with the good and the bad.

Mother Nature hands out both. Without one extreme,
the other is meaningless.

Aye.
Thanks, Grandma.

The good news is that the Carolina/VA area looks safe from this storm. The bad news, is that these areas may be at risk for Jose, which will pick up speed and head Northeast after Irma dies down. So folks cannot relax yet.

I e-mailed Marc Grove at Wefing's He and Anita are OK--but prepared to leave if the storm drifts further West into the Gulf. Currently they may have a 4-5 foot storm surge, on top of higher river flows, and the tides.

I'm really sorry if I offended you, I didn't mean to. It's just that I believe in God and I think prayer helps. It's the least I can do...

I called a neighbor close to us on same canal system close to 41 and not on the coast

https://www.facebook.com/Parker2320

scroll down for the pic

Water is low in his canal but our canal is deeper (10' at center) and wider (75').
He has power. Storm center a few hours away and he will not leave.

The Admiral is in Ocala watching football and enjoying Sonny's BBQ and beef brisket

Thanks
