Hi guys a gals, I’m in love.
I’ve been using a dehumidifier I got from Amazon last year . $50-60. Uses the power of a 80 watt lightbulb , has no compressor, uses semiconductors, drives the humidity below 50%… proven in sunny FLA…. Drains overboard …. beware..Power interruptions will shut it off .. slow and steady but safe and amazingly cheap. Now you can quit running your AC!!!…….you’re welcome…S

Try to buy the ones with 4 semiconductors

Great idea! Super low power consumption too. Our HVAC system in the house uses low speed dehumidification technology with air condition too. We actually set our house at 82 degs. in the summer in Aug. Humidity is 30%. Temps feel like 76 degs. Pretty awsome, so I can see how this would work in the boat too. How potable is the water that it collects? I'm getting ideas for a water maker too. Everything on our little boat serves a duel purpose. This could fill in the need.

I used a "Mighty Dry" (no longer made--similar units for marine use are expensive) which had a compressor and coils dehumidifier, all Stainless Steel and bronze etc--Expenisve, and I sold both of the units we had (RV and Boat) when the last of those were sold. They drained overboard via the sinks. Any compresser system is far more effecient than the Peltier effect unit which you have. Have you measured the humidity decrease? It would be interesting. There are plenty of household units which will work well on our boats.

The question was asked about a water supply --yes, I have seen a compressor dehumidifier used this way. On an Island resort off the city of David, Panama, the bar obtained it's "pure water" for mixing drinks from a compresser dehumidifier draining into a container.

The problem with this Peltier effect unit is that it produces a lot of heat trapped in the boat. If you don't have any fresh air coming into the boat, I suspect it would lower the humidity--at a drop of water a minute (advertised), it would take a long time to dehumidify a C Dory. I would stick with air conditioning, or dehumidication which pipes the hot exhaust air overboard.
