So I'm just trying to figure out if I'm reading it right, but for my own curiosity, I'm trying to figure out which hull number I have in the series.
HIN is MFN220190781. So as I read it
MFN is the manufacturer code
22 is model length
019 is the hull I. The series?
07 is month hull was laid, say July?
And 81 is the model year
Am I reading this correctly? Read through some of the older topics and only walked away with more questions, since they seem to pertain more towards the newer dorys.
 
This is the pre 1984 "HIN" code. The maker was MARBEN MARINE, the boat model ID was 22 footer, Your boat would have been hull # 19 of the 22 foot series. In the pre 1984 HIN number the "date of certification" is the last 4 numbers--so this is 7th month 1981. More recently a letter code was used for the date when the hull was first laid up,or the "keel was laid". In reality it is very possible that your boat was first started in July 1981.
 
Cool. Thanks for the clarification. Just wanted to make sure I was reading it correctly. I found it interesting that I had hull number 19.
 
Interestingly (to me), from what I can tell, C-Dory (by then having progressed through the DOR builder HIN and a year or two into the CDO builder HIN), got up to hull number 999 in the 22 series and so started over with 001 It looks like this occurred in the latter part of 2001 and may have started with the first 2002 model year 22. I guess that makes sense as I believe there are only three digits in the HIN for that, not four.

I wonder if they ever figured they'd become so popular back when your #19 was coming out of the mold! (Granted, a slightly different mold back then). Anyway, you have a Classic in both senses of the word :thup
