Hi,
I was wondered about the recomended choices for 12vdc fans for the helm, sleeping area, and cabin areas. If they would fold flat that would be a plus.

Lots of discussion on this topic at various times. We've had great experience with the Endless Breeze by Fan-Tastic. We run it all night and it's quiet and moves lots of air. That's important down here! We set it on the shelf in front of the center window and it cools the cabin nicely. At night, we simply point it into the berth. Works great...even when it is in the mid 90's.

JuUst looked at those at West Marine this last weekend. They had a powered display that would run each fan for about 20 seconds. Much quieter than the cheaper one speed model they also had on display. You get what you pay for.
 
We use the Caframo Scirocco fan, has a built in timer so it doesn't have to run all night, voltage sensor to turn itself off if your battery voltage drops. $79 at West Marine currently.

Over the foreward hatch or for moving air around the boat we use the Endlass breeze by Fantastic--a quality and bit more expensive item. Use 5/8" dowl rods to secure it inside the hatch and outside the hatch screen.

The Walmat O2 fans for $11 are also a great buy--and are 12 v or come with a 110 v wall wart.

We have the Hella 2 speeds over the bunks and they are a bit noisey. We have them by the helm and windshield. Just recently are trying the Bora Caframo. It is quieter with a good breeze. Also the ECO fan on the Wallas, for circulating the heat.

Fans make the boats much more comforable.
 
We've been using the Wal-Mart O2Cool fan for several years on the boat. Inexpensive and it works great. We found the 12v connection on the side was a good fit for a 12v cord from our first iPod. We also use two of the clamshell battery operated fans in the v-berth when necessary. You can put them right where you want, they're guiet, they last for a long time on a set of batteries, and they fold away small when you aren't using them.

I have two of these Caframo compact fans. I like them because they can move more air (on high) than many of the others.
