Good Evening all.
There is so much information available here it will probably take me forever to read about it all, so instead of reading everything first I thought I would say hello from Colorado, where there are few C Dory's and fewer places to use one.
I own a small 30' Suntracker houseboat I keep at Lake Powell. A couple of years ago I saw someone launch a C-Dory and have been infatuated by them since then. I recently spent a couple of weeks visiting family in Massachusetts. I took a day trip to Lake Winepasaukee in New Hampshire and visited the Y-Landing marina where I was able to see a 22' cruiser, 25' cruiser, and even a 25' Tomcat. Wow! What great boats!
Needless to say, I have fallen hopelessly in love with the C Dory and have set a goal of becoming an owner. My first step will be to sell my small house boat, then start looking for something I'll be happy owning the rest of my life. Those of you who've chosen to live and cruise on your boats have peaked my interest, so my wife and I have been discussing such a future in the past few weeks.
I'll be traveling to Seattle on business sometime in the next 2-4 weeks and hope to stop by the factory and see how these boats are made if time permits. From what I understand, there are a number of you in the area. If any of you have spare time to kill some evening, perhaps I could see what a working C Dory looks like. Then again, since I haven't sold my own boat, I'll just get a wishful look in my eye and be extremely jealous.
I have yet to read anything from anyone who isn't quite satisfied with their choice in boats so I think picking a C Dory can only be a good choice. My wife grew up sailing Lake Huron and the North Channel and she longs to return, so it will not be a difficult decision for either of us to make. From what it appears, my love of Lake Powell could easily be expanded to include the North Channel, Gulf of Maine, Alaska, and just about anywhere else. Hopefully the price of gas doesn't put the kabosh on the whole idea.
I look forward to meeting many of you.
