Hello from a New User

Good Evening all.

There is so much information available here it will probably take me forever to read about it all, so instead of reading everything first I thought I would say hello from Colorado, where there are few C Dory's and fewer places to use one.

I own a small 30' Suntracker houseboat I keep at Lake Powell. A couple of years ago I saw someone launch a C-Dory and have been infatuated by them since then. I recently spent a couple of weeks visiting family in Massachusetts. I took a day trip to Lake Winepasaukee in New Hampshire and visited the Y-Landing marina where I was able to see a 22' cruiser, 25' cruiser, and even a 25' Tomcat. Wow! What great boats!

Needless to say, I have fallen hopelessly in love with the C Dory and have set a goal of becoming an owner. My first step will be to sell my small house boat, then start looking for something I'll be happy owning the rest of my life. Those of you who've chosen to live and cruise on your boats have peaked my interest, so my wife and I have been discussing such a future in the past few weeks.

I'll be traveling to Seattle on business sometime in the next 2-4 weeks and hope to stop by the factory and see how these boats are made if time permits. From what I understand, there are a number of you in the area. If any of you have spare time to kill some evening, perhaps I could see what a working C Dory looks like. Then again, since I haven't sold my own boat, I'll just get a wishful look in my eye and be extremely jealous.

I have yet to read anything from anyone who isn't quite satisfied with their choice in boats so I think picking a C Dory can only be a good choice. My wife grew up sailing Lake Huron and the North Channel and she longs to return, so it will not be a difficult decision for either of us to make. From what it appears, my love of Lake Powell could easily be expanded to include the North Channel, Gulf of Maine, Alaska, and just about anywhere else. Hopefully the price of gas doesn't put the kabosh on the whole idea.

I look forward to meeting many of you.

Longmont, CO

Hi Tony,

Quite coincidentally, I just met some families from Englewood, CO, who were here at Monkey Island, OK, on Grand Lake of the Cherokees, who also have fallen for the C-Dory line.

I just jumped in here to say that, whatever model C-Dory you eventually choose, the actual fuel use in water can be very efficient if you cruise at trawler speeds, so don't let mpg be the major factor in your choice.

If one is towing long distances, of course the lighter CD22 would be less expensive, the CD25 next, and the TC255 TomCat the heaviest and most expensive to tow.

Welcome aboard and best of luck to you in your quest! Of course all C-Dorys are good for cold weather boating and Fall/Winter are my favorite boating seasons here in Kansas and Oklahoma.

Don't know where Longmont is, but Lakewood , CO, is fairly famous among C-Dory folks...my daughter Lydia lives there! OK, that is not really the reason - Bill and El Fiero of Halcyon and the great Halcyon Days web site live there too! Seriously, PM us, if we can, we would be happy to give you an up close and personal look at a CD25.

Missed you at the Shad Ralley this year. Welcome to the site. I too saw my first one at Lake Powell it was the Catherine II out of Wellington Utah. Mine is a 22. I sold my Fourwinns 238 and my Crestliner and have never looked back. I usually hit Lake Powell all winter long. Just turn on the Wallas and sit back and have the whole lake to yourself. In December I left Bullfrog and didn't see another boat until I was about 5 miles from antelope point. Setup a photo album and post some of your Lake Powell photos it will give everyone here something to drool over. There will be a gathering at Lake Powell in the latter part of September, it would be a good time for a look.

Welcome to the pub. Just prior to coming out here, send me a PM (private message - click on the PM button in my post). If our schedules mesh, I'll take you for a ride around the sound on my 22. Then you can compare a 22 (mine) with a 25 (Pats)!

Wow! Plenty of offers from all sorts of people. Looks like there are plenty of great people here and a wealth of information.

Jody - I did hear that you were a C Dory owner. Maybe I'll run across you at LP one day. I see from other forums that a large C-Dory get together will occur at LP sometime in September. I'll probably be there the first couple of weeks, but I may be a bit early. My new boss (in Seattle) is not too flexible on time off like my old one, so I'm not getting to Lake Powell as often as I have in the past. I'd really enjoy being able to see things in the winter. Probably get a lot more great photos.

Pat/Roger, thanks for the offers. I'll let you know as soon as I find out when my boss wants me in Seattle. Riding on a C Dory will just seal my fate since I already want one, but it would be nice to see how they handle afloat.
