Halcyon News

Fall colors on the Cumberland are beautiful... or before, or after fall. You know we need about 15 minutes to prep for your arrival Bill and El...and I promise, this time there will be fixtures on the ends of the in door plumbing. No home re-do projects planned at all!

Our doors and docks are open and waiting.

IF your travels bring you to S Puget Sound, I think we could find some great Home cooked Asian food.

Speaking of psychologists and their studies. Nearly every day I help some patient explore their cognitive distortions with occasional examples of how El & Bill live well and how less is more.

You are valued friends.
Best travels and hope to see you on the water

Jim and Joan - It would be great to see you guys - we reckon to be at Jackson Lake around the 14-16 of June. Is that a good time for you folks? What are you doing in Jackson for the summer? Will you have the boat?

Hello Bill and El,

Ever the optimist, I am doing another boat captain job; a 38 passenger scenic cruise boat. We will be there for the summer season, but Wild Blue is in indoor storage. We will be in our RV. Keep us posted as the time gets closer. It would be a treat to see you two again.

Best wishes,
Jim

"Planning" - what a concept! I can plan one one-week and one two-week vacation for 2010, 2011 and 2012...(or one three-weeker, but we like to break it up). THEN the planning begins in earnest! Great Loop? Narrow boats in English canals? BC Coast? Alaska? Sea of Cortes? Western Lakes Grand Slam? Florida Keys? Bahamas? Oh boy oh boy oh boy!

We have completed a great cruise on Lake Powell with family members and Rana Verde Chris. Now on Jackson Lake in Wyoming. On the hook last night in a beautiful cove after snow flakes yesterday. (106 on Powell last week). Watched dawn on the Tetons this am.

Heading up to Yellowstone next week if all's well with boat, truck, trailer and us. Here, at the Tetons, we had a nice visit with Jim and Joan and are supporting family by taking them to primitive campsites by boat and to and from trailheads. Today was one of those classic Wyoming days - cool light northerly breeze, crystal clear air, eagles circling overhead, and the Tetons blanketed in snow lifting their lofty peaks to the sky. Ahhhh!

Writing from Deadman Cove at the foot of Mt. Moran (12,605'). We have been to the Tetons many times, and this is our second time on Jackson Lake with Halcyon ( http://cruisingamerica-halcyondays.com/teton.htm ) - and never seen a more calm and clear day - perfect C-Dory day.

Completed a marvelous cruise on Jackson Lake with family, then a fine time with geology, water, critters, family and friends on Yellowstone Lake.

Then, with Yellowstone John and Edna leading the way, we explored the geology and wildlife of Bighorn Canyon on the Wyoming/Montana border. Fine 2,000 foot deep canyon carved into ancient limestone beds. Great place for a canyon cruise in the northern Rockies.

Now 'camped' on the bank of the Yellowstone River en route northerly to Ft. Peck reservoir, one of the largest dam impounded lakes in the country. We kayaked the lake many years ago when we came down the Missouri River for a few months. We look forward to the return on the C-Dory this time.

After travel with friends and family for the past month we are now alone. We debate the next place after Ft. Peck - maybe Sakakawea? Trending slowly east and north. Great to cruise land and water with Halcyon.

Little time or Internet coverage so no tales for the website yet - great when the boating is so enjoyable that there's little time for anything else.

Now at Ft. Peck in central Montana. Ninety- six degrees in the cabin - whew! Great to be back here - came down this big lake, together in a double kayak, 25 years ago. Not much here has changed - except us! Now have 80 horses pushing us.

Great lake with many coves and rolling green plains - lots of rain in the winter so the lake is high and the banks beautiful with flowers and birds.

The Tetons and lake Jackson are spectacular. Years ago I took a photo of some wild flowers with the lake and the Tetons in the background with snow on the peaks and still have it on the wall in the cabin. Brings back memories.
We're headed for Glacier national park and Flathead lake but alas without the boat this time. Besides the scenery we're hoping for cooler weather than here in Florida but it sounds like a heat wave.
Enjoy the cruise. Alan

Have a good trip west - most of the Rockies had lots of winter snow and a rainy spring - green and beautiful. Just a bit too warm now, but that will perhaps break before you arrive.

103 and Halcyon is there?
Hummm ....that mobile AC unit must be broke....
I mean that trailer and tow vehicle. How did the heat catch you two?

Wow...we almost have frost warnings.... Mid 80s top of the day, mid 60s at night...for about a 4-5 day run here.

Think it may just be a welcome home gift to the GYPSY crew...?

Cheers Miss El & Bill :beer

A hot summer in the northern plains states. Roasted on Ft Peck reservoir, toasted at Devil's Lake, blown off Lake of the Woods, now waiting out a thunder storm at Voyageur NP. Hope to launch Monday for some border cruising.

Pat - we're pressing the Canadian border and still toasting (96). Ah, but time will change that soon enough we expect.

Hey, If anyone wants relief from the heat and or humidity, just come to Puget Sound. We can fix you up. (Boy, I am getting tired or lemonade!!!)

Better hurry, we are forecast for our first day over 80 next week. Of course, just because it is forecast, doesn't mean it will happen!

Staying cool and moldy in the Great Pacific Northwest. :disgust

El and Bill,

If you don't want to partake of Robbi's lemonade, it's still Julyvember here in Oregon. The ski lifts are running at Timberline...

Are you coming to Lake Powell this year?

Regards,

Steve

Steve - no positive plans for fall yet. We love Powell so it's a strong pull to return, but we're now pretty far east and might continue that way before heading south.

Some great cruising at Voyageur National Park - but, as expected, buggy. Deer, beavers, river otters, eagles - great wildlife and beautiful anchorages.

Now, without Halcyon, heading easterly to Boundary Waters Canoe Area for a week long wilderness canoe trip with kids and grandkids.

Then, perhaps with a few g'kids in tow, may return to Voyageurs National Park.

Back on Lake Kabetogama doing some cruising and g'kids are fishing. Bit of rain but better weather projected. Beautiful up here in the north country along the MN/Canada border.
