Great Weather Map

Pat,

You have to touch (I pad - phone) or click on Mac. To get current weather at that point. Also shows wind arrows etc. There is more I have not yet explored. There are other sites for prediction, which I like better.

Bob - I don't even get a map to click on! Just a blank screen and down at the bottom it is spinning trying to load something. Using a nearly new Macbook Pro with Lion. I will try Windoze (a partition on this computer) and Ubuntu (on my little Acer One netbook) and see if I get anything there.

OK, results of a couple of quick tests - the map does not load because the browser (Chrome) is waiting for s7.addthis.com to load on:

Macbook Pro - OS X Lion
Macbook Pro - Windows 7
Acer One netbook - Ubuntu 10.04

The map DOES load (no waiting for s7.addthis.com message) on:

iMac - OX S - Snow Leopard, Chrome browser

Did not try on the iMac on the Windows partition, or with Firefox or Internet Explorer.

Got a lot of hits on s7.addthis.com on a Google search. It is a tracking site, all say it is harmless but can slow browsers to a crawl. I removed all the s7.addthis.com cookies on the Macbook Pro, and it still prevented the map from loading. There does not seem to be any good info on blocking s7.addthis.com - I added it to the blocked sites on my hostlist, and that did not seem to do anything, the map still did not load.

Computer gurus out there - what is going on and what can I do? No WAGs please! Thanks!

Pat, what version of Chrome? And what extensions do you have installed?

Here, I'm running version 16.0.912.77 (Official Build 118311) on Ubuntu 10.04 and not seeing any problem.

In fact I have had that noaa site bookmarked for a long time, on various platforms and various browsers, and never noticed a problem... but if your connectivity to addthis.com is bad at the moment, that could conceivably be keeping the site from loading. Chrome is very aggressive about loading javascript, since all of Google's analytics depend on it.

My suggestion would be to use Firefox with the NoScript extension. Permits finegrained control over which sites you allow loading scripts from. Chrome has nothing as nice, and probably never will IMHO.

Sounds like a plan. I will give Firefox a try and see if it makes a difference.

Here I sit, on the first C-Brat check-in of the day.

I'm reading about Firefoxes, Ubuntu Linux, OS X Lion's, Chromer's, and Safari, and probably "SIRI" pretty soon....

Meanwhile, I'm just trying to figure out how to reprogram my damn Casio digital watch to the correct hour ("Spring Ahead and all that....")
... sometime's Life Isn't Fair.

A Friend recently mentioned "Casey, you don't get Out much do you?"

I gotta work on that.

Now back to that damn watch....

Best,
Casey

Hey CaseY-

It's been two hours!

You still working on that watch???

Time to get an up to date mined 12-year old to show you into the electronic age!

(INCLUDE ME TOO!)

Haave fun today in whatever you do!

Joe. :teeth :thup

Joe,
"have a great day...". Yea.
I'm sitting in a GI lab waiting for them to run a
17,000ft hose up my; well, never mind!
You have 'nice day too!
Best, (well almost...)
Casey

Casey - URG! Keep on messing with your watch -- get your mind off 'things.'

But back to the weather thread -- hmmm - 70 degrees here at the base of the front range, and sunshine. Looks a little damp down your way on our Accuweather map.
