Grease Guns

I have a bucket full of leaking grease guns. I don't want to carry any of them with me so I bought a Plews "disposable" gun. It is prefilled and can be refilled. I haven't used it yet so I can't tell you how much I like it but I know that I really dislike the conventional grease guns.

I use an air powered Lincoln--far better than any of the "Walmart" types. Next down the line is the NAPA's best...but it will leak. Pull the pressure off the cartridge and less likely to leak--carry in a plastic tub that fits.

I've had a lot of different brands and have found one that is truly well made and worth the extra few dollars. The Lincoln Lubrication 1134 Heavy Duty Pistol Grip Grease Gun with Whip Hose and Rigid Pipe is the one for me and my friends use it as well as it is much better then the ones from auto stores. Do a Google search and you may end up buying through Amazon as the best value.
Do keep in mind that most greases, no matter which brand, will break down with time and heat and allow oil from the grease to become viscous enough to "leak" out of anything that should contain it.
As a side note, I have found a grease that meets or beats most other general purpose greases found for marine applications... I use "Green Grease", which is waterproof. Most other marine greases are only water resistant... Green Grease is available at Napa and other auto stores.

I just put up with the leaking. But to keep things cleaner in the garage, I saw a neat grease gun holder made out of PVC and made several for my self. They work well. I'll see if I can find the design, and upload it soon. Colby
..... Found it.

Thanks everyone... I think I'm going to go with one of the Lincoln models that Steve mentioned, and make one of the PVC holsters that Colby shared.

Bob, that air powered Lincoln is nice, but I'd like one that is more portable.

I wrap mine in a few paper towels and then go around a few times with plastic wrap, both of which are handy in my garage.

I now use plastic wrap for just about everything. I keep one in the tow rig, one in the car, one in the house, one in the shop . . . . No more twine for me. Great for keeping several loose parts together, like wrapping your prop wrench to the spare prop, or keeping a boat cover rolled up, or . . . .

We carry a compressor to be sure the tires are topped off. Also handy to use an air impact wrench if we have to get lug bolts off...(If we don't have the larger compressor, we have a battery operated impact wrench).

Since you carry a camper and I think get into some "off road" areas, a compressor will get the truck tires aired up, if you have to deflate them to get out of sand..There are also some really good 12 volt compressors.

If you don't go with the air--then your choice of Lincoln is good.

The PVC tube is slick...But I still prefer a plastic box, since you cannot get the full top and lever into the tub. I suppose one could go with a 4" tube to allow the entire gun to be isolated...
