Great photo!

1. CD-22 Classic or Angler

2. Seattle and Mt Rainer in background (looking SSE)

3. Taken from out around / below Kingston / President Point

4. Early morning (sunrise from east on Mt. Rainer)

5. Probably taken in summer/fall from weather/snow conditions

6. No registration numbers on bow of boat, but either they or the boat name
is on side of forward cabin trunk in three groupings

7. Boat motor is white with black horizontal band, probably older Johnson

8. Boat appears to have two downriggers set up on gunnels

9. vertical post behind cabin may be fish net viewed on edge

10. looked at photo information for date, etc., but no luck, yet, but photo is posted somewhere on Facebook

Mike or Bill should add this photo to those that rotate on the Homepage!

Your turn!

My guess is that the boat is leaving Meydenbauer Bay in Bellevue heading west into Lake Washington , but Mt. Rainier is photoshopped in.

Look at the City Scape-- the Space Needle is north of the downtown area- and Rainier is south east of the city. This picture would put Rainier north west of the city---- definitely photo-shop

That boat is definitely heading out of Kingston, grew up there and the point in the background is locally known as Newell(s) Point. Shilshole Marina is straight across to the right of the Space Needle. My guess is someone took that shot from up on the bluff or from the ferry.
Nice analysis, Joe!
Landmarks sometimes get "magnified" and seem larger due to atmospheric conditions. Imagine sailing with Capt. Vancouver when he surveyed Puget Sound and the first time they saw this after sailing across the Pacific!

Garry Anderson of the R27 Amy Marie, and my former neighbor for 27 years, shared this on FB "for Pat and Patty" with no other information. It is a beautiful image for sure!

I'm so wrong, and it's still early. :sad
Beautiful picture...

It looks to me like the registration numbers on the photo boat may be on the section of the deck molding that is vertical and just above the hull/deck joint. In other words, just above the forward end of the main body of the sheer stripe. I've seen them there on a few C-Dorys.

Really great photo and fun puzzle. Thanks for sharing that one Pat. Hope we get the answers.

There are an awful lot of C-Dory's out there that are not "here", and really don't care. I try and get each C-Dory I see interested in this site, and give them a card with the site on it as a reminder. Hopefully they will come around at some point.

Here is a video from C-Val. Boat name is Popeye, a 22 Classic angler. It's from White Rock BC, Could have been down in this area sometime. I think Joe is pretty right on on the ID.

"For those of you who have been following, "Popeye" my 22' Classic Angler is now officially on the market.(details in the for sale section)
I was able to buy a wonderful double axle trailer to go with it.

My kids helped me make this video. We had so much fun!
Motto for a good life:
Work hard enough to supply for your needs
Take time to be with those you love
And don't forget to play with your C Dory!

C-Hawk, I don't think that is the Space Needle looks like a water tower on Magnolia Hill. All the other buildings in the shot are in correct relationship with each other. And Mt Rainier is correct with the skyline

I enlarged the image to 500%... it "falls apart" with the low resolution, but the above sure seems right on about the water tower. I couldn't see any evidence of a PS "cut and paste" on the background... just looks like a good exposure with the right light... maybe a bit of enhancement of the mountain. This is a beautiful image.

Jim-

Thanks for the "expert testimony" from a professional photographer!

I have no stake in this, I'm just a guy who lives 700 miles away who just looked on a map and tried to orient the photo to the map, analyze the lighting, weather/season indicators, etc., etc.

The effect of the telephoto lens makes Mt. Rainer look imposing and gargantuan over the City of Seattle. Very nice!

Thanks for the comments!

I could easily be wrong, but I think it is the Space Needle. The shoreline of Elliot Bay runs sort of NW to SE. I think if you're looking from Kingston toward Mt Rainier, the Needle will actually be to the right of (i.e., in the relative foreground and to the west of) the big downtown skyscrapers.

Well- what can I say--- it has been 25 years since I lived up in Gods Country. It sure looks odd with the city scape orientation. I don't recall being able to see the Needle from the north like that, due to Queen Ann Hill.

Well, I came through Kingston, my home town, on Sunday. I sat in my car in the parking lot for an hour enjoying the sailors who were having fun sailing out on the Sound. It wasn't raining, but was cloudy.
Everything in the picture is dead-on correct to what I saw, except I didn't see Mt. Rainier in the background, just lots of clouds.
That IS the Space Needle to the right of the downtown buildings, it may not look correct, but that's how it has always looked from that perspective.
I agree, the shot was probably taken from upper deck of the ferry.
