GoPro camera question...

If it was between an Autopilot or GoPro - I'd certainly pick the Autopilot. The way we travel (trawler speeds) - we really couldn't enjoy it without the AP. Love the AP and use it all the time.

Think I'll hijack my own thread and ask about autopilots then. :-) Any recommendations for something basic? I have the hydraulic steering, single screw Merc 115 EFI four stroke. And I also have the Garmin GPSMAP 840xs. Wouldn't want to pay for anything fancy. But would be nice if I could get something that would follow a route or track from my GPS. But if that gets a little pricey, then even something that just holds a given course. Colby

We have the Raymarine S1000 Autopilot and have been very happy. Simple easy install and has worked flawlessly since 2008 - and we use it almost 100% of the time we are cruising (trawler speeds). It'll get some major use on the way to Alaska this summer!!

We have it tied into our computer navigation software (Nobeltec and now OpenCpn) and it'll follow the track from the software. Or it'll just go straight.

Have no idea if they still sell the S1000.

I'll have to look into that one. I just did some quick qoogling, and sounds like from the reviews, some like it, some don't. (Some it works great, others have lots of problems....) Perhaps there are some other inexpensive ones out there as well. In the few minutes I spent looking, I didn't see it for sale anywhere.

My son clamped his GP to the front stanchion on my boat and videoed us running out the canyon from the Rainbow Bridge in Lake Powell. Too cool!

He has his on a 3 ft pole and records himself in his many endeavors. Used the device to record the underwater antics of the carp under the Rainbow Bridge docks.

We have a hero 3 and it's awesome. We got a scotty rod holder mount for it so we can put in any of the rod holders on the boat. I control it with the app on my phone. We got lots of really cool fishing footage this year. If i ever figure out how to post videos on here ill put a few on.
