Today, Google launched its Google ebookstore; with more than 3 million titles available. The store offers cloud storage for all purchases, which means you can access your "digital eBook library" with any WiFi-enabled device that has the Google eBooks Reader application. (The app is available for Android, iPhone / iPod touch, iPad, nook, Sony readers, and PC.) Most popular titles are available to download — including The New York Times Bestseller list — and there's a large selection of free eBooks.

Great resource. I have mixed feelings about the Cloud storage. For us, many times we read books when in the RV or boat--and may not have WiFi access, or have to use our MiFi or G3 access, if available.

Also, I noted that "Tale of two cities" is for sale there, and yet I downloaded it free from another site.

The prices may be a game changer for Amazon, Sony and B & N. I wonder if there will be as many players still standing in 3 years? May be like VSH and Beta...and a host of other technical formats where one won out in the long run.

Well Dr. Bob,
I just purchased a :xseek Kindle from Amazon so we know that they are doomed for sure now. :crook :cry

Congrats, Mike
You will love it

Borders made an offer to buy Barnes and Noble and its ebooks collection. If that occurs, Borders will become a major ebook player.

I love my Kindle and use it almost every day, but prices on some books are ridiculous. The electronic version of a book should (IMO) cost less than the paperback, yet that is not always the case. Hopefully as more and more companies enter the market prices will be driven down, although apparently just the opposite happened when Apple came on board. Regardless, I think Amazon is in the ebook industry for the long term and buying into their platform is a safe way to go.

The convenience of the Kindle still more than makes up for the sometimes high book prices though. I am just wrapping up three weeks in Europe and I've been able to carry as many books as I want without carrying any extra weight. And I'll barely make a dent in the Kindle's battery life on my 10 hour flight to Seattle tomorrow.
