Goodbye Minnie...

The girls had to let their little Minnie go today. I have always thought of her as Tiffany's and Jamie's Guardian Angel because she came to our family as a gift to their mom through the goodness of some very special people and was with the girls through some of the toughest things life can dish out. Minnie did her part wonderfully and helped dry a lot of tears and make a lot of smiles in her 14 years.

I truly believe Minnie felt her job on earth was to help my girls, especially Tiffany, get through the hardest parts of growing up. Tiffany's nineteenth birthday was Monday, so Minnie must have decided she was able to go be with the kids' mom.

I don't have many pictures of Minnie on the boat because she did not like being on it at all. She would shake the whole time we were moving. But we knew for certain she would rather be with us and shaking than not be with us, so when the girls were on board, Minnie usually was too.

Rest in Peace, Min Min. Thank you so much for all you did for us.

Sorry to hear this, Mike - our condolences. Sounds like Minnie was very much a part of the family. It is hard to let them go... a lot of us understand. We will give our little Izzy some extra belly rubs tonight and raise a glass to Minnie.

Our sympathies,
Jim & Joan

Mike,

Marcia and I are so sorry to hear of your loss. Boomer has his head on my lap as I sit on the couch right now and we treasure our time with him, as we did with Valkyrie and Freyja years ago.

You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers tonight.

Regards,

Nick and Marcia

Sorry for your and the girl's loss. I knew that the dog wasn't doing too well from something I saw go by on Facebook. Dogs are particularly good at making people feel good about themselves and it sounds like Minnie knew that was her role in this world.

Both Marie and I shed some tears after reading your story about Minnie. There are some very special dogs which are put on earth to help use bear burdens we that seem unbearable. Certainly Minnie was one of those very special dogs.

Mike, Our prayers are with you and your girls.

Bob and Marie

Mike -

I was sad to read about your family's loss...we love our doggies, don't we? Like you said, they bring us so much love, comfort and joy. It is always difficult to let them go, but our lives are so much richer for even the short time they are with us. Rest in peace, Minnie.

You guys take care.

Sincerest condolences,
Mark

Tiffany, Jamie and Mike I know Minnie will live on in your hearts. :rose

Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Dave, Carol and Jessica

Mike-

Sorry to hear of your's, Tiffany's, and Jamie's loss.

Our pets are so special to us, and serve a purpose much deeper than words can express.

Our prayers will be with all of you.

Joe and Cathy.

Oh my. First on Facebook and then I get up to this sad story again. Sorry all over again, Mike and family.

Andy sends his best too! :sad :hug :dog :love

Wow, this is a heartbreaking tale...your dogs were the reason we got Oscar, and then Baxter. You all have our deepest sympathies for Minnie, but it she obviously enriched your lives and will be a "forever" dog in your memories. I just re-read the"Goodbye Oscar" thread from 2006 and am too choked up to write more...

Mike and the girls,

Sorry for your loss. Hang onto the good memories. They will last a lifetime and help smooth the bumps along the way. Prayers for sunshiny days ahead.

The kids and I thank all of you.

Part of what made Minnie so special is the wonderful people who seemed to be all around her all the time, including the Vet who cared for her at the end.

I have to share this story of him and the staff at his vet clinic. Minnie got sick December 17 and we took her in the next morning. They kept her in the clinic on an IV and she started feeling better so they gave us some medicated food and let her come home after two days. Total bill for that stay was $75. She didn't do well at home so she went back the next day. I talked to the Dr. privately and assured him that I would be paying the bill and not Tiffany, so he should charge a fair amount for his services. She was there for another six days with blood tests and IV and other medicines every day. There was even someone caring for her through Christmas and the doc told Tiff which door he would leave unlocked so she could go in to see Minnie when they were closed. The doc also cut off a growth on the top of her head and stitched her up. The day after Christmas the girls agreed with the Dr. that it was time to let her go. He took care of that while they held her, arranged for cremation and gave her remains to me today in a beautiful small wooden box. The total bill for this time was $125. I protested for a minute but he said that was the way he wanted to do it and it was worth it to him to try to save her, at which point I could only thank him. We are not the first people he has been so good to.

So thanks also to Dr. Goza and Columbia Veterinary Hospital.

The girls are doing pretty good with it now, but Minnie is still missed. Poor little Sophie the Lhasa is pretty sad, but it is clear she understands. Dogs are amazing creatures.

Goodness, I must have gotten something in my eyes as I read that post, Mike. It sounds as though your vet is a truly kind, compassionate, and understanding person. Having people like that able to help you at the end is a godsend.

That decision is never easy (been there), but know you all helped Minnie through that last act of love. Bless you and the girls.

Jim
