Gift ideas

I am new to this chat board.

My father in law has a c-dory and loves it. We’ve spent many weekend hours cruising Long Island Sound.

I am wondering if anyone has any ideas for c-dory related gift ideas (apparel, such as a t-shirt or hat or jacket or a book or video)? Any other suggestions are much appreciated as well!

I gave him River Horse last year, and he loved it.

Thanks

Good on 'ya Nicko.... Try this thread HERE
Download the order form on the first post and check it out!

I'd call the phone number listed and see if they're still in business. Get him something nice!

Welcome to the site!

Hey there
I am sorry to say that the company making the coats and hats is out of business .

You can call the C-Dory factory and I am sure that they would sell you some C-Dory coats, vests, or hats.
check out the web site for C-Dory and there you can get the # you need

Another book about a cruise in a C-Dory is:
Landfall on the Chesapeake, by Susan Schmidt

Although not as universally liked by C-Brats as River Horse, it does describe a journey in a C-Dory. Suitable for a gift.

We have many nautical christmas orniments and were decorating the tree today. I thought it would be a great idea to make a small C Dory or Tom Cat orniment for the tree--If you have any model building skills, models of boats or plaques which half models of boats are always appreciated gifts.

I found this site after some research for custom playing cards:

http://www.brainstream.com/playing-card-creator.php

I thought it would be a touch of class to have a monogrammed set of playing cards for the new boat. I found a high quality digital image of a famous Napoleon painting and used this for the front of the cards.

I will let you know how they look when I get them.

I received my playing cards and they look great! The print and stock quality seems very good. I also ordered a wood box with brass inlay for the cards from an Ebay store. Now I just need the boat so I can use them as intended...

NOT SURE HOW MUCH MONEY YOU WANT TO SPEND ON YOUR FATHER-IN-LAW, ESPECIALLY REALIZING HE IS THE GUY WHO HAS SPOILED YOUR WIFE AND YOU ARE NOW HAVING TO DEAL WITH THAT!
SO, ASSUMING YOU STILL LIKE THIS GUY, FOR ABOUT $50. YOU COULD PICK UP A NICE BOATING SHIRT AND HAVE HIS BOAT NAME MONOGRAMED ON IT.
GOOD LUCK AND HAPPY HUNTING!

Nicko, I don't have any suggestions of what to purchase for your father-in-law, but seeing as how he owns a C-Dory, you should spend A LOT OF $$$$$ on him just because he is obviously special.....since he owns a C-Dory. His daughter (your wife) must be extremely special as well for the same reason! (I'd say you "married" well..... )

Tim,

Those books are fascinating. Thanks for bringing them to my attention. I may just buy one for my 2 year old for Christmas....shame that I'd have to hang onto it and read it since he still can't read. Oh well, it's the thought that counts.

Actually I am real suprised that someone does not make small scale models of the C-Cory and half-models mounted to a board... I would like something like that in my office... other makes have em....

I was thinking of having a picture of my boat put on a coffee cup... I bought one of a Nordic Tug 26 last year on a Nordic website....but my wife broke it... I gave Roger (Fishtales) one of a Nordic 37....bet he still has his.

Like you, I want this. But unlike you, I'm not surprised it isn't available. C-Dory is a small builder, and there aren't enough boats (and, therefore, potential customers) to justify the expense of setting up manufacturing for models. It would have to be a labor of love on somebody's part.

I'm just starting in with radio-control boat models, and I've been trying to find a reasonably passable mass-produced hull on which to build a C-Dory deck/cabin. No luck, so far. The C-Dory hullform is so distinctive, and the only runabout-type hulls I can find are either ridiculous looking racing boats or classic looking Chris-Craft-style hulls. I've essentially given up. But our first RC boat should appear under the tree in just a few short days. It's a tug boat.
