My turn to step up to the plate and take a swing. Why in the name of all that is good is diesel as much as 10cents a gallon more than premium gas. It is not much more than stove oil. Not to long ago they were giving a gallon or so away with every Happy Meal. Actually I know the answer. Someone else said it awhile back. Because They Can.

Tug-I will not comment on the veracity of Dave's definition. Suffice it to say he is the same DaveS who some years ago, while leading a Snohomish River cruise, told one and all (on channel 68 no less)that "Snohomish" is a Native-American word meaning 'town with many antique shops'. My suggestion is for you to go to a local McDonalds and order a "Senior Coffee". Enjoy. :lol:

This is such a no-win conversation; everyone has a POV and most have a reasonable degree of validity.
If we, the US tax payer/Federal Government, were swimming in cash I would have no problem with subsidizing the purchase of 1Tuberiders car (via the $7500 Federal incentive). We are cash poor and are financing a lifestyle. therefore, I have a problem with it. After all, we had to borrow the money so generously handed over to 1Tuberider that helps him feel good about his vehicle purchase. I wonder how much that $7500 will add to the national debt via interest payments.
Why does this type of conversation is that it so often preclude culpability on the part of our elected officials. It's always (metaphorically speaking) some corporations fault.
Lastly, if you really want a head-scratcher on the topic of dino-fuel do an internet search for "Haiti oil reserves".
I really enjoy this site and hope to never be so strident in my tone that I would not be able to sit down at a GTG and enjoy boating conversation with any and all of the good folks here.

Government is giving some incentives to get off the dino fluid. There is the tax savings of up to $7500 on the volt. Consumer benefits on this one.

I have just had the car a week guys.
No I don't feel guilty about road taxes I am not paying. I hear California's already thinking of a way to deal with it. Nor do I really get the entire benefit of the $7500 tax credit. Last year my wife only worked around 6 months and we are raising 4 grandkids so I may not have enough regular tax after child tax credits and child day care credits to benefit from the $7500 tax credit so that's not really my motive for buying the volt.
My motive for buying the volt was to use less fuel. It feels real good to see the odometer now going past 500 and the total fuel used so far is only 1.5 gal. Its still not completely without cost as mentioned I have to buy electricity. It now costs around $1.5 to fill from empty. I just leave it plugged in at the office or home so I have 30 fuel free miles available.
You wanna mention goverment giveaways. Besides the volt credit I will list a few for you. A few years ago we were buying clunkers. And then we or gov decided to loan you 7500 to buy your first home. But that was not good enough we then made it a refundable credit of 8000 that did not need be paid back. How about some help with child adoption. You can apply for a $13000 refund. Of course to make the house payments you now have children that may qualify your household for the earned income credit which can get up to 4 or 5 k . On top of that poor soul with kids, we give you a thousand for each child and it can be refundable.
Not trying to be political on this just pointing out maybe why our country is spending more than we tax. Of course our solution is a super debt committee who can't agree on a path so lets make a paper tiger. Yuk!

mature. One thing is for sure I don't know why we need the word normal anymore! Seems like the American dream is harder to achieve for our kids and our lifestyles are being compromised. I tend to get riled up over our gloomy picture and look for solutions.
Time to go surf, think I'll take the surf van and pay some road tax.
