Some additions and fixes. We have noticed a jumpy nature to the map screen related to heading orientation and refresh since the last update. It looks like this should clear it up.

Greg, interesting comments. Last month I ended up sending my GPSMAP 841 back into Garmin for replacement under warranty. Sometime it seems after the last update, my unit started having some serious issues with it's map screen jittering terribly. To the point of a couple of times I had serious map shift, usually after a 180 degree turn. When I turned on my NMEA 2000 system, throwing the autopilots brains and compass into the mix, the screen would straighten right out. Turn it off, and get a msg lost heading sensor, and back to jittering. The replacement unit did not have that issue, and Garmin told me that it was likely the units internal compass that failed (on the unit I sent in.) However, I noticed that occasionally the unit they sent me still ever so slightly jittered a bit. I'll get the new update in it and it'll be interesting to see if that minor jitter goes away. Colby

As noted by another C-Brat, they do indeed have another round ready for many units.

Here is a example set of changes to our 741xs

Changes made from version 6.30 to 6.40:
◦Added Fusion support for DAB, Android Audio, and Firmware Updates.
◦Added support for NMEA 2000 device names.
◦Increased the max depth for the depth range shading to 9999.9 feet.
◦Quickdraw recording improvements.
◦Fixed an issue with the GT23 transducer where the frequency would revert to a discrete frequency after CHIRP was selected.
◦Fixed support for filling up all tanks at once.
◦Fixed support for engaging the autopilot when multiple units are networked together.
◦Fixed the Back button when trying to exit a full screen sonar page from a combination page.
◦Other Improvements and bug fixes.

Jeff Siegel sent his last "Active Captain newsletter" today. In it was announced that there was going to be a new Garmin / Active Captain App. It implied that there was going to be a whole new series of Garmin Chart plotters which were going to be interactive with the app, and that the Active Captain information would be on these chart plotters. There was no information if older chart plotters would be supported. (Which is a disappointment.)
The free all-in-one ActiveCaptain™ mobile app allows you to manage your marine experience from nearly anywhere. It creates a simple yet powerful connection between your compatible mobile device and your compatible Garmin chartplotter, charts, maps and the boating community.

You have to have a Garmin Account, and that will work across all of the Garmin platforms--including hand held, car, RV, Air and marine plotters--as I understand it.

All-in-one App for the Ultimate Connected Boating Experience
OneChart™ lets you access and update all your charts and maps from your mobile device and purchase new ones to use on your chartplotter
Get smart notifications, such as calls and texts, on your chartplotter display when paired with the app
Connect to fellow boaters in the ActiveCaptain Community for up-to-date feedback on marinas and other points of interest
Make, save and transfer routes and waypoints between the app and chartplotter — with zero button presses¹
Easily upload and download the latest Garmin Quickdraw™ Contours content from the community — with zero button presses

Looking at the comparable platforms--it appears that my one year old, several thousands of dollars of chart plotters etc--do not support these apps.(1041xs and 741xs--and associated Chirp/downscan, Radar etc) But the above links by Greg, are for the comparable devices.

It will be very interesting to follow the twists and turns--including the Navionics buy and see what else transpires. There is mention of crowd sourcing depths in Garmin charts. I had just updated my Garmin Blue Chart Mobile a couple of days ago when I bought a new "i pad pro"--and the app update still works tonight.

There are also some changes on the "Active Captain" web site. A new "flash map" apparently is either available or in the works--I don't see it on my MAC.
The old 'Live map" works, but seemed to be a little slower...may just be a quirk.
