RE Cutter Marine -- when we were in Delaware in July we planned to swing by Cutter on the way to the airport to kick the tires on the C-Dory lineup. To quote the sales guy we have a CD 22 in stock -- I can make you a good deal. You have to order and prepay for any of the other boats in the line up -- no sea trial/test drives available. Not the way to sell boats in my opinion.

Bill,
I am suprised that you were treated that way. I have never had a problem with Cutter Marine. My experience with them has always been great. Always pofessional, honest and good people to deal with.

I did have a converasation with them and I think the economy and fuel pricing did have an effect on all boat sales wich lead to their decision to exit that part of the business. They still have a great marina business. I am hoping to buy a 25' C-Dory from them. They still have 4 in stock.

I for one am sorry to see them go.

When is enough enough? The guy that signs the checks calls the shots. That goes for the big guys and the little guys.

Love my C-Dory.

What I find ironic is that some on this site cheered the demise of a small startup company that broke away from C-Dory...

Nobody at all cheered the demise of CC, but many of us despised the underhanded way it came into existence. A judge in three instances and a jury in a fourth upheld the basis for our disgust. That is not irony, it is justice.

Yep.

My limited understanding of the Cape Cruiser and C-Dory legal issues consists having a legal and binding non-compete contract between the parties and it was broken then later resolved in a court of law. ex. A common practice esp when a employee is hired away or leaves his current employer for a better position, salary and benefits with a competitor and taking insider info, too. You protect your turf.
Feel free to correct me.

The question at this point is what can we do to help our friends at E. Q. ?

My guess is that we've done enough in this thread and that if Les thinks we can be of more help, he'll let us know. Other than that, buy a boat from the guy. If he has the ability to deliver the type of boat I'm looking for at the time, the next boat I buy will be from Les.

You have a 2002 C-Dory and you're looking for a boat? Isn't that an oxymoron, like "jumbo shrimp" or "Army intelligence"?

No - eventually, I'll be trading to something else. I'd like more room in the cockpit for fishing and a longer range for the same reason - e.g. I want to tuna fish from Neah Bay. I also want a bit more interior space and a better ride in big seas. That all sounds like the Tom Cat but Les doesn't sell those anymore. I also would like a little bit nicer interior - which would mean I'd probably want the Tom Cat with custom cabinetry (not doable with the present factory). I've got awhile to go (probably) before I buy a new boat. The only kid just entered college and a new boat purchase probably should wait until he's out of school (4,5,6...years?)

The way this thread is running, it will still be active when that kid gets out of school! By then, Im sure we will have it all figured out.

As the Monty Python crew used to say, "and now for something completely different..."

C-Dory's new ownership has a business plan and that's just the way it is. We have no say in it.
I stopped by EQ Marine the other day just to kick some tires. Les answered all my questions, even some I didn't know I had. Very impressive.
When I'm ready for another boat I'm going to EQ Marine. Even if it costs a little more initialy I know a properly spec'd and set up boat will cost less in the long run.
I do have a say in that.

C-Liner... Ouch!

Not so Roger. Get one of those new life insurance policies like I did. They give you all the money now, and when you kick off, the kids have to pay it back!  :thup :thup

Another added benefit is that they take real good care of you!

Go for it!
