Here's a YouTube link to a video showing surfing lessons at Fords Terror, Alaska. Really shows what the water conditions were at ebb tide when we ran the same water in the Hunkydory by accident in 2004 causing loss of navigation computer, two cameras and depth sonar.

Thanks, Jay. I needed that breath of fresh air. What a wonderful time in a beautiful place.

We revisited Ford's terror for the 3rd time this summer. It is truely a wonderful experience.

The second time, we spent a week in the Fjord and one afternoon took our 12.5 foot RIB with a 25 hp up to see how we did agains the max flood. We could make 22 knots and were not able to breast the tide comming in thru the inlet. Incdently the inlet is a bit deeper at low water than some books suggest. We saw 12 feet on the dinghy depth finder at near slack water. One has to remember that there is really no slack for the entire passage water--the current is either comming in or out at some part of the inlet--the slack is always moving.

Thanks for the interesting link.

Wow, Jay. That's wicked when you think about running it in a C-Dory. If I recall, your videographer had a little trouble holding onto the camera when you made your movie of the run. How about reposting the link to yours again now that we have this perspective?

Jeesuz...quite a volume of water; looked like a river. The surfer had a difficult time keeping his speed up, hence the continuous "pumping" of the board, hoping to create lift. Once he stalled, he was swept away.

Looked like fun for the kayakers, though definately not for me on a surfboard, C-Dory or kayak. "A man's got to know his limitations".
