What do you think of this ? my 27 does not weight 11k. at 22 city and 30 highway ( not while towing) the new f150 would make a good 22 tow rig and maybe even a 25/27. not sure if it has the weight to stop a 25/27.

I have the 2.7 in my XLT Supercrew 4wd and best highway mileage is 24 mpg. Regarding towing, max GCWR is 10,200# so I'm limited to a boat/trailer of about 4500#. So that's OK for 22 but not a 25. Usual caveats about distance towed, hilly vs flat terrain, etc.

OK, link to diesel not in original post. Still, here is Car & Drivers take on that:

There's no denying that the 3.0-liter Power Stroke is a polished performer. The rub comes when you start to delve into the numbers in earnest. In addition to adjusting your fuel-economy expectations for cab and driveline variations as previously detailed, there's the small matter that the diesel's 11,400-pound max tow rating and 2020-pound payload rating aren't even enough to make it the most capable workhorse in the F-150 lineup. That honor falls to a properly equipped F-150 with the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 that is rated to tow 13,200 pounds and haul a 3270-pound payload....Considering the initial upcharge for the diesel engine, it's a numbers game best left to be played by shoppers with sharp pencils and solid usage data.

When Tom said 30 mpg highway it’s pretty evident only a diesel F150 presently will do that. I agree the numbers still might not work out to a cost benefit with the extra add on for the Diesel engine & the present upcharge for diesel compared to gas.

I think it would tow a CD 25 or Tom’s 27 ok & perfect for a CD 22. I do like the diesels for their added driving range & torque. I’ve driven diesel cars & trucks since high school with the last two a Ford F-250 that ran starting in 1984 for 27 years with the present a 2006 Chevy Dually 3500 duramax. With the 56 gallon after market fuel tank it makes the trailering to & from Alaska with the light weight CD22 a breeze & not bad even with the additional 4500 lb camper loaded on too. At 140,000 miles it’s still got years of life left, but I’m tempted at times by the F150 with the 3.5 gas or 3.O diesel.

Not sure you are really going to see that 30 mpg on the road, except maybe at lower highway speeds--like 50's...

But I have a new respect for small diesels. My "new" RV is on a Sprinter Chassis--188 HP and 295 ft lbs torque, with only a 5 speed transmission--pushing a 11,000 lbs RV,: basically with a 7.5' beam and 11' height--class A size wind profile. We get 15 mpg, and pulls the grades better than my much larger RV with an 8.3 L Cummins. With a 10 speed transmission, and 65 more horses/100 ft lbs torque that Ford should be a good performer.
