I thought you would appreciate this news release:

Wal-Mart announced that it will begin offering customers a new discount item - Wal-Mart's own brand of wine. The world's largest retail chain is teaming up with Ernest & Julio Gallo Winery of California, to produce the spirits at an affordable price, in the $1-$3 range.

Wine connoisseurs may not be inclined to throw a bottle of Wal-Mart brand into their shopping carts, but "there is a market for inexpensive wine," said Kathy Micken, professor of marketing at University of Arkansas, Bentonville.

She said: "But the right name is important." Customer surveys were conducted to determine the most attractive name for the Wal-Mart wine brand. The top surveyed names in order of popularity were:

10. Chateau Traileur Parc

9. White Trashfindel

8. Big Red Gulp

7. World Championship Riesling

6. NASCARbernet

5. Chef Boyardeaux

4. Peanut Noir

3. I Can't Believe It's Not Vinegar!

2. Grape Expectations

1. Nasti Spumante

The beauty of Wal-Mart wine is that it can be served with either white meat (Possum) or red meat (Squirrel).

No "Topo Gigio" listed.

Spirited Holiday Wishes,
Jim & Joan

boy, that would be handy, M & I could stock up on wine while we shop for all of our polyesther wear. I hope in comes in boxes, those bottles are so cumbersome, and they hurt when used as projectiles

Jim,

You know how to cook that white meat (possum) don't you?

Skin the possum, add plenty of salt and pepper, coat it with the

(new Walmart) wine.

Find a nice cedar board, preheat the over to 350 deg.

Tack the possum to the board and bake it for 1 hour.

Remove it from the oven, throw the possum away and eat the board.

Dixie forever, Ron :xlol

This one is for your Possum, good cheap wine. (geopolitical or whatever the term is to define the slow Southern locations).
Have nice Holidays and keep smiling! Ron

I suspect the Dixie here is married to Brent, not the geopolitical reference, but I could be wrong!

Warren

Indeed, Warren. While you know that I am a transplanted southerner (damn Yankee?), this post was for our Utah/Winter Texan darlin' Dixie. I am not a wine connoisseur (another one for TyBoo Mike to check on) - I know what port is on the boat, but wouldn't know a port from blush if it bit me on the butt. Joan and Dixie have been known to share a bottle (or a box - actually smart on the boat IMHO) a time or twelve. Brent has his "one drink per evening" (it would take me two hands to lift that thing), and I have my Diet Dr. Pepper and the occasional rum and Diet Coke. Joan loves to tour wineries. When doing the tastings, I know she holds her breath, concerned that I'm going to say, "This tastes like that last 12 that all tasted the same to me. You got any of that Boonesfarm strawberry stuff?" I can't smell the "hint of citrus" or taste the "hint of white oak with a smokey undertone with an after-taste of lavender." But, I can tell the difference between Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi. And the Mexican Diet Coke has a "hint of cinnamon." But, I enjoyed the humor in this Wal-Mart wine bit.

Trivia: I heard yesterday that 87% of the population will receive at least one Christmas gift purchased at Wal-Mart.

Happy Holidays,
Jim

I really wish Walmart would sell GooGoo Clusters and Moon Pies before they take on the cheap wine market. I can already get White Castle hamburgers at Fred Meyer.

Merry Christmas Everyone!

I always hold my breath when Brent says "Jim's talking about you on the Brats again" But this time buddy, you are so on the mark. I'm thrilled to hear about a new wine. If it's any good, they should send me some to sample. I really can't believe Franzia hasn't sent me a complementary case of Chillable Red for converting so many of my good C-Dory friends to that fine wine. I wonder if Swanny still drinks it occassionally? I continue to enjoy a glass each evening and it's only better if it is with the Wild Blue Crew.

We are enjoying our visit in Utah with the kids, but are looking forward to our trip back to Texas next week.

Happy holidays to all our C-Brat friends and we are looking forward to seeing you cruising next year. Let's all toast (maybe even with cheap red wine) to another fun year on our great boats.

Dixie

I just saw that Zimmer guy on TV; he's the guy that eats ANYTHING strange, weird, gross or otherwise un-appetizing. The entire episode was Appalachian foods (W Virginia, Tennessee, N Carolina etc); Possum, squirrel, racoon, black bear...mmmmm good. Apparently one of the "extra special" delicacies was squirrel and possum brains. There's NO wine in the world to make that palatable...and I'm saying that and I eat some things from the sea that most people wouldn't. It's all about where you're from, what you were brought up on and what's available.

Merry Christmas

Thanks for the good news about the Walmart wines. We always had a couple of boxes on our boats and always carry a box in our Roadtrek. Now we will have a larger choice and since we anchor at many Walmarts we will always be close to a source of good wine.

When we are in New York State we always drink wine from real bottles. Last Dance Terry got us started on Red Cat a few years ago.

Happy New Year too!
