I just bought a foldaway bike for our trailer and boat
It's a 12 speed Adventurer 22 in wheels, with shimano gears front and rear hand brakes for $159 at Camping world . This bike usually runs $250 The sale is until May 26th 2014. I've always wanted to bring a bike along and now I can .weight limit is 250 lb so I can have a few more beers before I reach payload max .

Wow! That's a lot of bike for the price. I really enjoyed our folding bike when we kept the boat in Everett Marina. I know you will too.

Hi Jim,

Sounds like a good deal! We have a pair of folders we bought at Camping World - they have been good bikes; a bit heavier than the Dahon folders we had previously, but half the price. And, we have had the CW bikes longer than we had the Dahon.

We have taken our bikes on the boat and in the RV. If you are in salt water, you will want to keep them someplace out of the spray (we kept them covered in the cockpit). When on fresh water, we strapped 'em to the radar arch (yes, the radar still works fine).

At the time we bought ours from Camping World, they had "big butt" seats - if they still offer those, they are VERY comfortable.

Enjoy the bikes!

Best wishes,
Jim

Hey, Jim! Long time no see! How the heck are you? We need some folding bikes but not likely to get to a Camping World in this time frame...oh, well!

I have an older Dahon Mariner (and like it), but have recently read from some avid bikers that they have both Dahons and (cheaper) Downtube brand folders, and they like the Downtube ones slightly better. So perhaps a brand to consider.

My only problem is the Dahon is across the country from where I have the boat. Oops.

I purchased mine at West Marine about 5 or 6 years ago. It is made in China so it did need a little tune up at the local bike shop. Over the years I have improved it by changing to a good set of 20" tires. About $50. each but they roll a lot better. I ride it hard every day in the winter time in Florida. It is aluminum and is lighter that some and of course rust is not a problem. It folds better than some high priced bikes, has six speeds and cost about $200.00 on sale.

Well, I have a Brompton, an English- made folding bike with16 inch wheels. It weighs aboout 20 lbs I think and, suffice it to say, it's expensive. I'm not quite sure how I ended up with it, probably because our son Joe is a framebuilder and bike nerd.

I like the symmetry of 16 inch wheels on our C-Dory 16.

Oh sure, you had to post a photo of your Brompton  That's my dream folding bike (and would actually cost less than driving cross-country to pick up my Dahon, so there is that :teeth).

Can I ask how it is to ride, in terms of the front-end geometry? Reason I ask about that specifically is that the Dahon has a very "vertical" angle of (not sure the technical term) the line that runs down from the handlebar stem "through" the front forks. Makes for slightly twitchy steering, especially if there are bumps. In my besotted mind, I imagine the Brompton is probably a lot better that way.

To add to everything else I like about the Brompton, they have the cool "build your own bike" pages wherein you can noodle around adding/subtracting options (and they show the added/subtracted weight for each one) and then try out different colors on "your" bike. Addicting :D

If most expensive folders are called BIKE FRIDAYS They are built on the W Coast. Some of them fold in to a suit case with wheels for airline travel. they have a trailer hitch so you can use your bike at your destination. Some of my rich friends have them they ride very well. Friday also make a folder called a Ticket that folds very fast and has 16 inch wheels. It would be worth a look. All that being said my Port Runner from the marine store works just fine for me. Bonnie the Cat will not ride on the small carrier.

nice thing about these bikes is the 22in wheels for the price its a deal .Pat doing good living in Naples fl. Pat I think you can buy online through camper world.
