Flu shots

Brent-

Is this a newer and perhaps better shingles vaccine than the one previously in use? Will it help protect one in addition to the older vaccine? Will it be available soon? Etc.

I'm really worried about shingles*, and have had the other vaccine. Was told there was no need for another inoculation (booster) of the first vaccine.

* I had the measles and chicken pox at the same time when I was about 3 or 4, and was a real mess. I'm sure I'm full of the chicken pox virus and at 75, getting older and weaker day by day.

Wishing no pox on anybody's house!

The vaccine is called Shingrix and is a non-live, recombinant vaccine for patients aged 50 years and older. It is an intramuscular injection of 2 doses, the second coming a month after the first. GSK's FDA application includes the results of 2 randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trials that showed a 97.16% and 89.79% vaccination rate efficacy in patients.
The FDA expert advisory panel based their decision on two pivotal randomized trials, ZOE-50 and ZOE-70, which compared the vaccine (administered as two doses) to placebo in people aged 50 and older or 70 and older, respectively. The studies enrolled nearly 30,000 subjects. Panel voted in favor 11 -0

Vaccine efficacy was 97% in the first study, 89% in the second. The incidence of post-herpetic neuralgia was also reduced.

It looks very promising

Vaccine is waiting on FDA approval, product insert then needs Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (CDC) recommendations to sort all of questions of its usage, precautions and adverse reactions.

I have not idea on cost, Medicare coverage and private insurance endorsement

Everyone planning on getting a flu shot this year?

There are many docu's on the subject. I've watched "Vaxxed" and a few others. All that poison stuff is from the incredibly criminal cabal running the country called the Medical Industrial Complex to actually kill our asses! a 'soft-kill' as some call it. :disgust One MUST do their own research.

Are you testing c-brats for trolls and order followers of the empire? looks to me like there are plenty here, or just tribalism that can't accept America could be under such a siege.

Many continue to awaken, apparantly those with c-dorys, not so much. Were spoiled!

During the last 80 years, the life expectancy of an American Male has increased by 20 years. Many of us here on this forum are alive today, because of modern medicine. In 1917 the life expectancy of a male in America was only 48 years. In 1918 it fell to 36 years (because of the flu epidemic.) It rapidly increased over the next few year, to 60 years--and then a gradual increase to the current level of 80 years. A child born now should live to the age of 80 years, because of the advances of modern medicine.

There is no period in the history of mankind when the longevity has increased so dramatically.

There are those who don't want to believe scientific facts. I let them go their way.

There is a good chance that Shingrix will pass the last hurdle in Oct. for US distribution. There is a chance that it may be available toward the end of this year. The current shingles vaccine (Zostavax) is covered by Medicare part D (drugs) and is usually a tier 3 or 4 drug--so you may well pay for it--and up to $200. (Depends on your insurance plan). If you primary care physician can write a letter stating that there is compelling reasons for you to have the inoculation, it is always possible that your insurance company will pay for it.

In my opinion anyone who is at risk should have a re-vaccination with Shingrix when it becomes available. In the meantime, if you develop symptoms consult your primary care physician immediately, and get the medications (Antivirals) which are available.

I support science, modern medicine, vaccinations, flu shots, and rational thinking.

World class pot smoking and / or other mind altering drugs?

Nope, sorry!

I have gotten one every yr for the past decade or so, on my doctor's orders. I have asthma. Not chronic, but the winter months wreak havoc. Last yr I got pneumonia, despite my best efforts AND the flu shot. Most yrs I escape, unscathed.

So, I will again march off and get it and hope it's better than last yr. As I get older I find I am not so bullet proof...
