Florida Keys, Winter 2013

We may run down and see if we can find "my Girl" today. The wind was down for a few hours last PM (even got out in the Atlantic when it swung to the South), but by early this AM the wind was back up to 20 knots. Not bad if going with it--but against, it can be a bit rough.

At least for us, it is being ready to go fishing when the wind dies--even if the forecast says "no go".

I just got into Key Largo today, boatless, and will around for about 11 days. Looking forward to seeing some fellow C-Brats.

We met the crew of Greybeard, and left a note on " My Girl". Joe of my girl, called and we are getting together during Super Bowl. Nick, come on down!

Nick,
We left the Hampton Inn in Key Largo this am and headed for Key West about 7:00am. We got the boat launched, camper top and side curtains on and put the boat in slip on Wahoo dock slip 15 at Garrison Bight City marina in Key West. It was blowing 20 mph plus. Tonight we are going to eat at the Thai Rest at the end of our dock. Pretty convenient. We will be here until next Saturday when we trailer the boat back up to Marathon to the Black Fin Resort on the bay side 47th street. Dr. Bob seems to be camped out in a gated RV community on Knights Key. We stopped right before there at the seven mile grille for coffeee to go. We will try to sneak up on him next Saturday! Maybe we could all get together next Saturday night for dinner somewhere? I'm not buying! No snow here today. The Hogfish Grille on Stock Island makes a bad ass fish sandwich.

We'd be workin on getting so Keysee

Dave,

Sounds good! My wife is flying in on Wed and we might run down to Key West before you head to Marathon. Will send a PM if we do. Looking forward to finally meeting you.

Bob,

Will see you in the morning!

Nick just left after a day in our "gated compound"--they let us out for lunch and for a boat ride--but the wardens are pretty strict there!

Dave, we will see you on Saturday. My phone is eight five zero five two nine 5063. Give us a phone call, and we will all meet up.

Black Fin Resort looks great. We will all get together -- anyone else in the area speak up--on Saturday night for dinner.

Bob,
We will load up the boat and scoot up the road on Saturday am. Castaway's is a nice place for dinner right near Burdines Marina. But it's your call on the spot for dinner. I'll give you a ring once I get the boat back in the water in Marathon. I think the winds will start laying down tomorrow. Nick we will meet up on Saturday for dinner or before if you make it down to to Key West. Should be fun.

Entertaining hospitality was provided and much appreciated for the Super Bowl by Dr. Bob and Marie. Thanks for the fun and a look at television -- thought I might not see the game. We kept the cheering volume within reason most of the time (except for that run back) and there was no bad language (although we did leave before the end of the game). The "gated compound" is actually quite nice. Hardly noticed the wardens.

Left Bahia Honda. Put in at Garrison Bight without problems. Sorry to miss Will-C but hope to make contact soon. Planning to explore the Marquesas. I am hoping, along with every other C-Brat in the Keys, that the wind will lay down soon. I'm ready to fish when it does.

Disappointed to miss dinner on Sat night but heading back home Friday.

Dave,
Definitely the wind is down--and we caught fish...may have to go fishing every day to catch up now!

When Nick and I were out sneaking about Boot Key yesterday, we went by Castaways by boat--(we had scouted it out earlier in the week by car)--looks like a great place!

See you Sat--and anyone else if they want to give us a shout--and we are not fishing...

Bob,
Ok Castaways it is for Saturday night. There is an outside bar before the actual restaurant entrance where we can meet. They used to have 50 different beers on tap and serve excellent sushi. (Fish Bait). I'll call you when we get settled in the slip. Do you or Nick want to pick out a time? I'm thinking Castaways can get busy at times maybe we will call and make some reservations. What did you catch? I caught a couple porgies and a 1/2 bucket of grunts. Just ate some for dinner on the boat yum

Dave,

We plan on spending most of the day with Bob and Marie, so we are flexible on the time. Also, I visited Andy and Molly on Molly J at Mangrove Marina in Tavernier this evening and they might be joining us.

Nick,Bob,Andy,
Ok I will say let's meet at the outside bar by the entrance of Castaways Restaurant in Marathon 1406 Ocean View Ave. between 6:00 and 7:00. I'll make reservations for dinner for 7:00 for eight people. Let me know if this ok with everyone. The more the merrier.
phone number for Castaways is 305 743 6247 if you have trouble finding it.

I will also call Dan on Graybeard. He was in Bahia Honda, and his wife should be down here this week. It is even possible that Charless and Marjorie will be down here (I"ll phone them also).

The parking is tight, but there is a lot a couple of blocks away, and a "golf cart limo" which will take you to the eatery!

Dan is a go for one (his wife does not arrive until monday), and Charless and Marjorie are also in port, so please include them.

Sounds like a great gathering!

Dave,
We will be all there--thank you for the trouble to organize and make the reservations! Sounds like a great evening, good company (always with C Brats) and food, with a plus for the Venue! The sooner we get there the more beer or wine we can drink! (except for those drivers). Marie nixed the going by boat idea....shucks)

Great job! Jooking Forward

We fly out to Sarasota tomorrow, we'll be in the Keys by the 14th. Bob, I'll make contact when we get to Big Pine Key. I'm trying not to let the excitement overwhelm my workday, but we're really looking forward to the warm weather and blue water.
