Florida in March

Hi,
My wife, our dog and I are planning a trip down thru the Florida Keys in March via the intercoastal waterway. My tentative plan was to launch in Key Largo area and travel the 100 miles south or so to Geiger Key and finally Key West. Bopping along about 25 miles a day. Any places that are especially recommended for one thing or another? I like to try an avoid any sort of cattle drives (crowds don't need me) I also wondered about bus service to get back north from Key West to Key Largo to get my to rig or if I should just plan to do a one way car rental? Any Florida boating guides better than others? Thanks in advance for any thoughtful suggestions. I won't be staying in Key West too rich for my blood. I'm going to try a place called Geiger Key Marina about ten miles to the north. I'll just do day trips in to Key West via boat or car.

It's been 5 years since I was there, but Garrison Bight Municipal Marina was a great place then, at a very reasonable price. Key West is too good a place to miss.

Richardson's Chartbook and cruising guide is about $55. Cruising Guide to Florida Keys is about $20. For that short distance (Largo to Key West) you might consider just picking up the "waterproof chart for lower Florida Keys".

You can find bus service from Key West to Marathon, but I think you would have to transfer etc to get to Key Largo. I would see if you could hitch a ride or if not, then get a car for a day.

You do want to send at least one evening in Key West. Do the Pier sunset have a drink at Sloppy Joe's bar!
