On Tuesday we left Port St Joe for a short trip to Apalachicola. There were lots of Hydrilla (water lilies) floating everywhere. Found a slip that was empty, tied up the lines and hooked up to electricity. Last week the city did away with the position of Harbormaster due to budget cuts. Could not find anybody to pay so we stayed free. At the city marina there is electricity but no bathrooms, no showers, no WiFI, "NO NUTTIN", etc., so free stay wasn't too bad. With no WiFi we could not post, google or email any messages.
We had a very good visit with Marc Grove the President of Wefings Marine. He stopped by and we talked about boats and C-Dorys and a possible Gulf Coast Gathering in the future.
We had a very fine meal at the "The Grill". It is a restaurant on the corner where US 98 turns 90 degrees. There is a caution light here that one way is red and the other is yellow. Marlene had bacon wrapped deep sea scallops and I had a shrimp and oyster plate. I really do recommend this place to eat as we have eaten there several times and the sea food is always the best. After supper we went across the street to the Gift Shop and I bought a pink flamingo for my yard. What I use the pink flamingo for is to tell me how forward to pull my truck when I pull the boat into my yard.
We had planned to visit Dog Island and then on the Saint Marks and maybe on to Steinhatchee. However since we would be traveling in the open Gulf and seas were predicted to be 3 to 5 feet. And I did not get much sleep Tuesday night as my left foot hurt. Too much walking? No my gout flared up and I did not have any medicine so we decided to come home. We bought 35 gallons of gasoline at the Sippio Creek marina at $3.37 a gallon. They said that gas was going up next week. Well what else am I going to do with my children's inheritance? From Apalachicola to home is about 7 hours and the trip was smooth and enjoyable. There always will be another trip in the future.
