There has been some rumors flying around concerning some problems with Fishtales, a 2002 model CD 22 Cruiser--- true.
I have always noticed considerable flexing of the hull. When we would hit a wake or come off a wave, the hull would flex so much that we would get a rush of air coming out of the v-berth area.
Summer of 2005 I returned the boat back to the Factory to have them repair the excessive stress cracks and to install a Wallas.
I talked with Jeff concerning the stress cracks and the flexing of the hull.
He said that these were the worst that he has seen, but could not explain the reasoning for them.
Last August, when we returned from the Catalina Cruise, we noticed water seeping from below the chines. I called Bob Nahm, Catalina Yacht Anchorage- Dealer, and had him look at the boat. They took the boat in and ground into the chines- both chines were hollow full length. Bob sent pictures up to Scot. Scot told them to perform the required repairs.
After the repairs were complete, we took the group on the Santa Barbara Seafood Festival Cruise in October.
When we got back I noticed water seeping from the same areas. I called Bob to come look- Bob said we have worse trouble then we thought.
Again they ground into the hull- the hull was delaminated. The boatyard cut a section out of the hull and sent it up to Scot. Scot told Bob to give me a new boat- no hesitation.
For the past few months we have been going back and forth with the factory on the details of the replacement. I preferred the wooden cabinets that we had in Fishtales, but told Scot we would accept the molded interior. Ricardo said we can have the wooden interior.
With the new boat, C-Hawk- 2008 CD 22 Cruiser, we will be installing a single Honda 90 EFI and a few extra items, these extra items I will be paying for.
The factory is honoring the warranty and standing behind their product.
Many thanks to Bob Nahm, of Catalina Yacht Anchorage. He did not sell us the boat, but he stepped up to the plate to handle the repairs and eventually the replacement negotiations.
Many thanks to Scot for honoring the warranty-- we love these boats.
Many thanks to Ricardo for stepping in and expediting the negotiations.
