First Day on The Water

Thought I better update the Brats on my C-Dory adventure.

Drove from the Canadian border to the Mexican border to pick up my 16 foot angler, a 3000 mile round trip. (boy I must have C-Doryitis real bad).

A long but easy and event-free trip home; and today I plunked her into the Straits 0f San Juan De Fuca from Sequim Bay and enjoyed myself thoroughly-once I figured out I needed to release the tilt lock. The boat's original owner lived in Port Ludlow and the boat then found (lost) its way to Sacramento, CA and then to Yuma, Arizona. Now its back home again where it belongs. Never previously named, I think she deserves the name WANDA FOOKA The jury is still out on that but I like it)

Needless to say I am quite pleased with the boat, it is every bit as clean and near-new as it looked in the internet ad. The Honda 40 motor looks and runs like a dream with less than 80 hours. It is hard for me to believe this boat is as old as it is. Very stout and Fun, Fun, Fun. I'll get some pictures posted in the next week or so. I am a happy captain.

Oh yeah, like most C-Dory owners, the sellers were some fine folks too.

Regards, C-devert

Congratulations!

You have an album set up for your pictures. I was going to name it Wanda Fooka because that's a cool name, but I left it generic for now. We can name the album properly once you decide for sure on your boat name. You'll find a link to it in your profile info.

Thanks for the great post. It was real fun to see.

C-Devert - I can tell by your post you are one happy camper.

Congratulations on getting your boat and getting it back up here.

I like WANDA FOOKA. It is original and different.

I hope our paths cross sometime in the Sound. I will be going out tomorrow, but will be in the south sound area. Hopefully the conditions will be windy and rough.

Hi Carl,

Pleased to read that you were able to pick up your C-Dory as planned and that she's everything that was mentioned in the ad. Love the possible name of WANDA FOOKA.

Wishing you many happy adventures.

Glad to see others with this C-Doryites....and driving thousands of miles to get our boats. You make me feel normal. Congrats and you will continue to love that little boat. Please take it from me...if you ever go to up-size....do not sell that boat. You will miss it thousands more times than the money you receive...even if it is what you paid for it still....and...you will end up back in the market for a small C-Dory as a second...or third one. Hence...my need to buy the 18Angler.

Enjoy...the boat and the folks around our boats.

Congrats, future neighbor! Looking forward to seeing you on the water once we're up there full time.

The 16 is a great little boat, and you're especially going to love it if you're into crabbing inside Dungeness Spit...it's nice to be able to launch at the ramp there, instead of around the corner at John Wayne Marina - especially if the weather is a little nasty.

Toss me into the crowd that loves the name...we can see "Wanda" from the top of our property west of PA, and it's a funny and fitting name for a local boat. I'm definitely in the camp that like a little humor in a vessel name... :thup

Congratulations!

Although I like the inverse of Wanda Fooka better, it's probably best not to go there.

Best of luck with the boat.

Congratulations! As a fairly new owner of a C-Dory, I know some of what you must be feeling. Unfortunately, mine is waiting for its engines to arrive, plus the attendant rigging, of course.

Were you pulling your boat onto the main drag in Sequim from east Sequim Bay about 2 p.m. Saturday? If so, we saw you...and a nice looking boat it is, too.

According to some of my fishing sources, now is the time to be hitting the Dungeness Bay area for silvers. I had a report that the fishing was pretty good last week. Of course, with the rain we had today, the fish may be moving quickly into the river.

Undoubtedly, we'll see each other on the water. I'm looking forward to it.

And I like the name as well.

Congrats! We, too, love that name.

As for long distance buying, we bought ours sight unseen (just photos) while we lived in Alaska and picked her up in Nevada on our move to Alabama....so don't feel strange about that long distance buy!

Congrats on your new boat, and the proposed name is great! In fact, I think I dated Wanda in high school... I don't remember that much about her, but her Mom was a great gal. Yep, old Mother Foo... nevermind.

Best wishes,
Jim B.

I really like the Wanda Fooka name, but there have been a couple of rough days when I thought Wanda Puuuka would be appropriate, too. Seriously, Congrats on your new boat!!

WOW!!!! 3000 miles? Your hard core! I hope your desire has been satisfied.....Until you can't live without a 22' or 25'

I'm glad it all worked out for you. I know you will never regret the long distance purchase and the boat. How was the trip home? Did you use the older trailer? The name is a masterpiece. I finally had to ask Dot "who is Wanda Fooka?"....she explained it to me. I hope to see you on the water.
