February Nor'Westing Magazine

Thanks, Larry - I also located this link and noticed that it was the immediately past issue that they have up. But it will be there in due course.

Charlie - I knocked this out in several early morning sessions right after the Seattle Boat Show. But I am back at work now, and my only restriction is against heavy lifting. They did not mention mental heavy lifting...

Here is a link to a site where Norwesting can be read online.

Look on the right side of the page for the magazine. The latest copy is not there yet as the site is still showing the boat show issue.

Pat, having gone thru the whole C-dory story, starting with the order for the Mary Ellen after the 200l SBS, it is with some sadness that I read your article. I think all of us would like to return to the old C-dory when 6 boats a month was the norm. It is a very factual and correct article that gives a good insight for the rise and fall of C-dory. I, like you, agree that the jury is still out on the return of C-dory of the glory years. I hope that Triton can pull it off. I am still waiting for the brocheres to pass out for future C-dory owners.

I am anxious to see the magazine myself. I don't know how it was edited, what title they used, or what photos they used if any. Chuck Gould told me they would use photos to break up the dreaded "wall of text," and they would edit it to make sure nothing could be construed as "slamming" anybody. Those of you who followed my posts during the Latham and post-Latham period know exactly what I think, and most of the words in this article have been posted here in bits and pieces over the last few years...

The outline for the article was solidified in my brain in about 10 minutes, and I wrote it over three early morning sessions before going to work immediately after we came home from the SBS. I sent it to Jim Wood right after running spell check, and heard back the next day from Chuck that they would definitely be running it.

Hi Pat,
I just picked up a copy of Nor'Westing and read your article. I found it to be well-written and an enjoyable read.

In hindsight, the previous owners (not the Toland family) might of had visions of becoming the next Bayliner by taking a small regional boat building company and expanding it to where it becomes a big player in the recreational boating industry. I'm not saying that this is good or bad, but it's merely a goal that some business owners strive for. The factory direct sales and service model might work for some businesses, but when I purchased my truck, I'm glad that I didn't need to fly to Michigan to close the deal.

I don't think it is appropriate to "vilify" the previous owners of C-Dory. If their timing was different, they might have succeeded with their business plan. You may not agree with their business model or their methods, but it was their business and not yours.

In the meantime, Toland Marine (Dave and Ben) have filled the void with the new Marinaut. It is a beautiful boat and I hope they are extremely successful with their business. By having Les as their dealer, It looks like they will be hitting a home run! Just my 2 cents.

Best Regards,
Leo

Patty just came home with a handful of the February issue of Nor'Westing - when Bill and El see it, they will be astonished to learn that Halcyon has been transformed into a CD25, and that they bought it in a "three-fer" with Daydream and Anna Leigh! (The third in the three-fer was actually Jim and Laurie Martinson's Laurna Jo). Sigh - oh, well, the rest of it looks GREAT, wonderful layout with a lot of photos...I am really tickled!

Pat, I picked up a copy yesterday at the Old Salts deli/gas (by Skyline) and immediately read your piece. Very nice! I also was puzzled by the Bill and El reference not only because they have a 22 but also because I thought they have had their boat longer than you have had yours. When I was writing for publication, I was fortunate enough to have editors who would send me the finished edit for approval prior to publication. Guess Nor'westing isn't doing that.

Did you see my message to you in the iPhone thread?

Warren

I got a complimentary copy on Sunday at the Blake island dock from a Nordic Tug owner. He saw us pull in and walked over to compliment us on our boat and said he had an article for me to read. He was familiar with the Brats and with Pat and is a writer for Norwesting as well. Can't remember the name.

But..... good article Pat, and hey sometimes a C-dory can get you a free magazine.

Greg
