Etec 90 prop?

yeah you have something other than a prop problem.... that prop should get you there no problem. what hole are you rigged on? remember on etec the spark plug goes in a certain way where the opening of the plug faces the throttle body. easiest way to assure this is mark opening with a sharpe so you know where it is once in the head.

I would also check controls and make sure when you engage full throttle from the helm the motor is actually going into full throttle. might be an easy fix.

the drag could also be that its hanging too low in the water. is the cavitation plate just above the hull? when I was rigging my etec onto boat a few weeks ago I had to put it on the third hole.

another thing to try is trimming motor it can increase a few hundred rpm. the way to know if you are trimmed out is if you are too far down it will pull starboard and too far up it will pull port.

if none of this is helpful then I would start looking at spark and fuel delivery...

etec are sweet motors once you get them set up....

So we boat up, family, snacks, sunscreen, you know the drill. We're not two miles out and the nearly new etc stars acting like it's starved of gas, it won't do more than 2k on the rmps. I'm thinking, oh it must be a limp mode because I ran the primary starboard tank almost empty wanting to refuel with fresh stuff this afternoon. So I switch the selector over to port and no changes.... Then the low oil light comes on, I read in the owners manual we've about five hours of operating time then it will be "no oil." OK, back to port. Top off the oil reservoir, think how about some nice fresh no ethonol gas. We head across our little bay limping there, and she cuts out, we almost hit another boat put some fuel in and away we go again, she won't do over 2k and again cuts out as we are heading straight into the dock...luckily we have only used the rub rail a few times, no major scratches. She is back on the lift.

This is from a parallel thread...this is why I think fuel system is the issue.

So I started with the separator last week. What I poured out was awful. I have never seen gas that color it was about 50% gas and water....oh. :disgust I just received my fuel filter for the Etc and will replace this weekend. They have the Oetiker clamps, so I'll keep my fingers crossed. The nearest Etc dealer is about a hour away. Hoping that will resolve the run ability/low rpm issue. :thup

If the engine ran out of oil, I would recomend performing the winterization procedure to be sure that air is purged from the lines.

I am also going to suggest you get the boat to an authorized Evinrude E-tec dealer and have him do diagnostics on the engine. The E-tec's are great engines when running well and properly set up. Since yours is misbehaving, it needs to get looked at.

These engines are too complex to just start throwing parts at, and if it's gone into the limp mode you need to have it looked at. The shop can check for codes and for other issues, and can do more advanced diagnostics and adjustment.

Invest a couple hours of shop time into this motor to be sure everything is alright before things get worse and expensive problems develop.
