Engines for C Dory 22

Considering the normal cruising speed of a C Dory 22 and the need to slow down in any kind of chop, has anyone experimented with using a Honda 60 hp motor? With the reduced weight and cost and the fact that you spend most of the time at 15kts or less anyway, this might be a viable option when time to repower. Any thoughts?

Bryant,
This has been discussed multiple times in the past. There are even some C Dory 22's which had 50's on them. In the long run, it does not pay. The engine is run at 90% of its output to get the 15 knots. There is little if any fuel savings. The boats are just under powered at that HP. You need more HP to safely naviate passes and river bars, going down wind and waves.

Plus, just after you slow down for that steep wake coming at you it may be necessary to get up on a plane fast. The 90 is a versatile choice.
