End of Feb to the Bahamas

Akjack,
It would be nice to have your company, but the 1st two weeks maybe waiting for the weather windows. One week left to enjoy the Bahamas and get back home. Could have bad weather at that time. you need more time to make a safe trip.

:( captd

Captd,

My wife still works and can't get time off. It would just be me and the C-Dory. This morning the temp is -46 in Fairbanks so a few weeks of above freezing would be a welcome change.

Capt D,

Looks like I will be making the trip in my 16 Angler since 22 rentals seem to be scarce. Stay close I'll be following in your wake. Can I bring my dog? What is the policy with bringing in animals into Bimini?

Also, as the local Bahamas expert, can you give me an idea of our itinerary once there? In other words, how much crusing do we do, how long do we lay up at petes pub, how much time is alloted towards diving/snorkeling, etc?

CaptMac,
We go to the Abacos. Clear customs at the West End. Around the point and travel the Bahama Banks as far South as Little Harbor, with lots of stops, fishing and diving in between. We use Marsh Harbour as a base.
We never are in no hurry to get to any place. We kind of just live there for two to three months. We are in no hurry to leave or in no hurry to come back to Florida. We will wait for a perfect window to cross the stream every time.

I believe the Abacos has better anchorages, with more places to buy ships stores than the Exzumas. I have cruised all 750 miles of the Bahamas chain and we like the Abacos the best.

Late breaking news......Mis Dee might not go.......An old fishing buddy may go instead. So far only guys sound interested.

Capt : We just spent some time in Green Turtle,Treasure Cay and Marsh Harbour with our neighbor who spends about six months a year in the abacos..His freinds in Green turtle rents the golf carts and their name is Saunders...Also Steve who owns several Bobcat dealerships in North Carolina is buying a marina and restaurant in Marsh Harbour.... Also we ate at Petes Place but we went by rental car which was a long drive down a narrow dirt path.....Great out door place ! By the way jim's wife shot a six pound lobster while we were there and that thing was a monster...........We wish we could afford to go with you all ! If you would tow our boat as your dinghy and toss us your left overs ,then maybe just maybe we could go.... Here's wishing, tucker

Ok, Sounds good to me. But we don't have a lot of scraps. Thats how we stay on the chubby side.

6 lbs, Wow , I think the season is closed when we would be there.

Welcome to the C-Brats. You have not named your boat yet?
Captd.

Capt D,

How is the crime rate in the Bahamas? Do you have a security alarm aboard your boat? Do we need to worry about our boats while they are unattended for little while?

I believe that lobster season in the Bahamas is August 1 thru March 31. It used to be that Lobster could be taken with a spear, if you were free diving. The current regulations seem to prohibit the use of spears. But there have been many changes in the sport fishing laws in the last several months.

Nice dog Capt Mac.

We have two like that (similarly trained) and a sign that says "I can make it to the fence in 3 seconds.. can you"?
Last two uninvited persons sellng the solution to the world's problems went away converted.

Thank you, Grumpy,

There is just no security like owning a well-trained intimidating guard dog. These pics were taken when Duke only weighed 100lb. Now at not quite a year and a half old he is bordering on 120lb.

I emphasize well-trained because I can direct him from being an over-sized lap dog to the most ferocious guard dog imaginable with only a hand-signal or a specific audible.

For anyone interested in a puppy, I will be breeding him soon with another well-documented German Shepherd with champion bloodlines.

By the way, DOES ANYONE HAVE A 22' C-DORY THAT THEY WANT TO SELL QUICKLY FOR A FAIR PRICE? If so, PLEASE PM ME!

I have decided that even if I were to make it across the Gulf Stream to Bimini in my 16' Angler (50-50 odds) Duke and I wouldn't have anywhere to sleep while there!

"Me go first??? It looks deeper than two feet!"

Capt Mac,
Sorry but you just missed Kingfisher.
Will post some pictures of our "beasts" The big one is also son of a working champion and his brother is a K9 in CA. I took him out of training because he is too fixated on me and if he doen't know what to do he tries to jump in my arms. Not at 120lbs thankyou and the judges don't like it at all. Other than that, totally fearless. Eats chain link fences.

Gotta love 'em.

Merv

Capt d , you are right we have not named our boat . We have a long list of maybe's but when we are on the radio we just call it the C-Dory................As for the 6 pound lobster it was shot with two spears....They live on Green Turtle and went lobstering every day while i was there..... Now i'am going to tell you just how dumb i'am..... When they told us how they shot it and it was pinned down but needed to shoot it again........Here goes ! I asked what do you shoot it with under the water ? Then i learned they shot it with spears , two spears......tucker

Plans are taking shape. My wife says "it sounds like all guys are going and no wives" She suggested, Why don't you and your old fishing buddy go and she will stay with his wife. I argued for a good 2 seconds and said reluctantly said... OK!!.

He jumped on the idea and the plan is in the works. He has a medical procedure at the end of March and we can leave right after that. This makes me wait an extra month, but the weather will be better at that point anyway.

He has no passport at this time. Does anyone know what the deal is for the Bahamas? He is applying for it right now, hopefully he could get it on time. I thought the law was postponed for a while to catch up.

All of you guys that have been thinking of going, Is March a problem?

Captd

Grumpy,

Yes I would like to see pictures of your dogs. I know what you mean by "fixated". Are your dogs German Shepherds or Rottweilers?

I might be able to go in Mar but I need hard dates. I will be flying from Alaska and will need to make plane reservations well in advance. The seats fill up and sometimes I can't get to the east coast within a week of when I want to. I am retired so the $1300 to $1600 plane ticket really cuts into the budget. If I use miles the cost is $5

Keep me posted.

My buddy has this Medical test at the end of March. I will get the dates and keep you posted. Should be by the first of April.
Captd

I may have to meet you in the Bahamas on the 14th or 15 th of Apr. Do cell phones work there? How can I contact you to meet up? What book or charts do you use while underway in Bahamas water.

Akjack

Akjack,

Email works pretty good from places like Nippers or Green Turtle. If you have a lap top with wireless. The Bahamas cell phone system sucks, is expensive, and a pain in the butt. I heard maybe one or the other companys might work over there as of late.
Guide we use is by Steve Dodge. Charts I use are by Maptech.

Captd,

Sorry to hear that your wife is getting her fill of living on a boat. A thunder cat is not as sweet as your present boat but it is still a wonderful boat.

Do you still plan on going to the Bahamas? I just ordered the book that you recommended. Should have it sometime this week.
