Anyone know the current draw of a household electric staple gun (e.g. Stanley TRZ550E)?

I need to replace the carpets on my trailer bunks. To do this I need to get the boat off the trailer. So this means going to a boat ramp, launching the boat, and doing the bunks in the ramp parking lot.

It'd be faster and easier to use an electric stapler. The stapler is 120VAC and I expect that the loads from the staple gun are very brief, but could be kind of high. I have a Honda 1000 that I could use to run the stapler, but I wonder if the Honda can handle the repeated load (lots of them) without killing the generator.

I could use a manual stapler, but that will probably be a pain (in more ways than one).

Maybe 10 amps. (At least from googling different guns). But it probably depends upon the brand. I used a pneumatic stapler, but then you need an air compressor along with the electrical power to run it... Colby
 
Your gen should be good for about 8 amps. Not sure what the stapler draws but I would think you should be ok. You could test it at home. As long as it works you won't kill the gen. Repeated surge loads can be problematic for the voltage regulator but usually over time. DC arc welders for example often require regulator replacement. Not sure if this is a problem with invertor type generators.

I have that staple gun, and it only has brief loads. Try it at home, but the EU1000i should handle it.
 
Another option would be a hammer stapler. Just thought of it today when putting up some vapor barrier. Mine is a Duo Fast HT550. They are very easy and quick to use plus don't need any power.
 
Another option would be replace the boards and carpet then you can do the work at home and bolt them on at the ramp.
 
One other thought; Monel Metal staples last far better than Stainless Steel staples. The Monel are the only ones I use around boats--including upholstery as well as dock rendering and trailer bunk boards.
 
FWIW, I got a Stanley TRZ550E staple gun. It does not work with a Honda 1000eu. More correctly it operates, but does not have enough power to drive a staple into a pine board, not even part way.

Doesn't matter if the generator is running full speed or not. There is a significant difference between the staple gun power when on the gen and when plugged into the wall. When plugged into the wall the staple gun has no trouble sinking a staple to full depth.

The staple gun probably requires a very high instantaneous amperage draw, which the generator can't supply.

Maybe an electronic / electrical engineer could devise a system with capacitors and diodes to store and deliver the necessary surge (probably harder with AC than CD.)
