Dumb (or maybe notso dumb) Question...

I've never launched a boat at a ramp like Lake Powell with the camper on the back of the truck. All I know is it feels really top heavy, and I would be concerned about making the U turn at the bottom of the ramp.

Has anyone got any experience with this? Keep all 4 tires where they belonged?

I guess I could put the hitch in the front receiver and push it down, then back out.

Thoughts?

It would take a lot of analysis to come up with a for sure answer. I've seen many camper laden trucks lying on their sides along the road over the years having taken fairly wide turns at highway speeds. The old hitch on the front bumper has a lot going for it except now you have to BACK all the way back up the ramp. YIKES!

I have seen fairly large boats ( 20' to 25' ) being launched by 30' to 40' motorhomes at Lake Powell. Never have seen one roll over. The ramps are steep at the present water levels. They were almost flat a few years ago when the lake was lower. With our dually Ford and a 10' Lance camper I never even thought about the fact it might tip over turning at the bottom of the ramp.

I don't know, I guess I would probably just back it down from the top. I tried helping a guy that was having trouble with one of those front mounted hitches, and I was so confused I looked like a first timer.

The turn at the bottom of the ramp might not tip the rig, but it may empty the fridge

I have launched my boat with truck and camper at Powell. Never felt any concern about tipping over. I also have a dually with 10' camper. I was there in Sep of 2008 and 2009. Has the ramp angle changed this year?

We have launched several times with a 30 foot RV, and probably will with a 40 foot RV. The ramps are not steep, and you will not be making a fast turn. I don't see a problem. But you may have to back in some way depending on how your trailer is set up.
