Dual 15HP motors on a 16 ft. C-Dory

Hello,

I have an 50 HP 2-stroke Johnson outboard on my 16 ft. C-Dory Angler.
I have a 2005 (?) 15 HP 4-stroke Nissan that I bought at auction (essentially new) that I figured I'd use on one of my boats.
Has anyone ever powered their 16 ft. C-Dory with (2) 15 HP outboards (and hooked up the requisite steering/throttle setup?
I use the boat in freshwater lakes in California.

Thank you in advance for any tips/thoughts you may have on this.

I don't recall this ever having been done.

We discussed it several months ago, and I believe it was determined that there wasn't enough room for a dual motor installation on a CD-16.

There are some folks with a 16 with a main motor and a kicker on a 16, but not two dual equal motors.

If I'm wrong, someone will correct me!

This looks like a job for OLDGROWTH DAVE - and a beam extention!! 8)
 
With 30 hp, I wonder if the boat will plane? I would stick with the 50 myself.
 
You should be able to get it on a plane with a light load, but it will still be a dog. Put at least a 40 on it. A 50 is the best option for a 16. Sell the 15 and the old 50 and get a new or newer 50 for the boat. You will be happier in the long run.

That was me who considered one or two small motors on a 16, mainly because I mostly just putt around. I decided against the small single because even here there are some large bodies of water to cross, especially in a hurry ahead of a sudden Florida storm. Small twins (and a main with a kicker) will fit on later 16s and I had in mind two Honda or Yamaha 20s (I forget now, but check their web sites) as they are very light, a tad less thatn my 50, and the 25s jump way up in weight. Some C-Brats explained that twins give up a little effective power, maybe down to 35 HP for two 20s, again the run-for-home factor. They also explained that the four-stroke I have would tolerate a lot of slow running.
Maybe I would have gone with two 20s if I had done it at first, but the change-over was too expensive for no more use than I was getting from the boat. My health was bad all summer but treatment is going well now. Wish me boating again soon.
In short, for the considered reasoning above, I too would recommend a 40 or 50 four-stroke --or maybe the 40 and 15 you already have.
 
barefoot - I hope you are able to kick whatever is ailing you and you have a chance to enjoy many years of boating with that 16 Cruiser you have.
