Three days ago Northwest Cable News aired footage of two fellas who are in their mid to late 60', that captured a 25 yr. fella in the middle of a residential street after the guy stole a wallet from one of the fellas. When the police arrived they found the scumbag hogtied in the middle of the street with one of the fellas sitting on top of him. The fella that tied him up stated that he "hogtied him just like back in the days when I was a cowboy". :lol:

be sure to continue your viewing of the northwest cable news regarding this incident. it would not surprise me that they will report the two cowboys are being sued by their hostage for a host of alligations.
when my father was 60, he was old, tired, out of shape, smoked, and drank to much. next month i will turn 60, height 5'10", weight 205, have 34" waist, bench 315 for reps, and will compete in the mr. northern kentucky body building contest, masters over 60 class, in march 2010. boy have things changed!
now the moral is, when my father was 60 he could have beat the mugger, half to death and would have been hailed a hero!

Another thing we do is remove all paperwork from the console and glove box and leave them open. Hopefully potential thiefs will notice and decide there is nothing of value inside.
I'd use a hardened bicycle cable lock through the rims. More difficult to cut, although with time it can still be done. As for the pickup, I remove ANYTHING of temptation; paperwork, CDs, Oakleys etc and leave both the center console and the glove box wide open. I also install a "club", again just to make it more difficult and help protect the air bag from being stolen. Heck, I even remove the adapter for the trailer lights when I leave. :lol: Can you tell I've seen more car prowls in 14 yrs than I can remember?

I use a coated cable that Yakima makes, and keyed with the same key that I use on my racks. It helps keep honest people honest, but could be cut by a determined thief.
They thread with patience, through the spokes on the rim, then around the trailer frame.

Does anyone know what the "secure" trailer parking lot at Squalicum is? We're going there next week, and after Port McNeill would like a locked yard.
In Port McNeill, when we got back from the Broughtons, our truck/trailer had been towed, and they didn't tell the port. We got everything back, but I'd like a "secure" area. You have no idea the joy in your heart when you go looking for the truck and it isn't there.

I think the tow guys were trying to create a little business, since they kept referring to us as the "California truck." When I pointed to the parking permit on the dash, they had to let me go.
I wasn't too happy being 2000 miles from home, and arguing with some jerk who had the truck locked up. Fortunately I had the harbormaster helping me, who was a VERY nice lady.

I had a trailer stolen many years ago-- simple lock on the coupler in a locked storage facility.
Since then, I have a "Boot" which locks on the wheel. I also use HT chain thru the wheel to the other wheel or in a single axle trailer to the frame, plus a hitch (goes into the ball) solid steel lock. I figure that they may try one, but all three takes some real determination, and they will go else where.
A chain is very easy to cut. I carry bolt cutters--and can cut most chains in a few seconds. The solid hitch lock is a bit more difficult (key type is round, so it is not easy to drill out). The "Boot" is relitatively to cut off with a hack saw, but it can be done. You would attract attention and that is probably the best detriment.

Cruising through the parking lot at our marina this evening, I noticed an empty trailer, Large, triple axel Pacific, that had some very distinguishing markings on the trailer frame. they were on the angled portion, in line about, where the boat registration numbers were. In big, bold print, The registration numbers from the boat were duplicated on the trailer. Later, when talking to the owner, I mentioned it looked like a good idea. He suggested welding them into the frame rail so they would not be removable. Might be a good idea if it would not damage the trailer integrity.
Just one more item to make it less desirable to drag away from the owner.

I recommend doing something similiar with anything of value you own Harvey. Use your driver's license number. I engrave it on my tools, electronics etc. I can't tell you how much recovered (stolen) property depts collect that they are unable to track back to their original owners. Your DOL # is easily traced by LE, but is useless to the general public. Like anything else, not a perfect solution but...
Mark, Excellent idea, and practice. I used to do that back many years, when I had an Oregon Drivers licence number. Many of my tools still have that number on them but now it has changed to a Washington number. Is the old number still traceable to me? or do I need to redo them with my Washington number? Funny thing, I think my engraver was stollen, or at least borrowed and never returned.

Usually, DOL will delete old data after "X" amount of years, although they should have a reference number on history of any licenses you've had from other states. Not sure about Oregon. It's just easier if it's up to date though.

Good idea except where a state uses your SSAN for the DL. Not sure if any do, ours used to but now you can "opt out". With that number and your address you could easily have more problems than just the loss of some items. :cry

In Wa State it's a mix of the first five letters in your last name, your first & middle intitial and a "last five" code of your birth date and other info that you need the code for to decifer.
