We downloaded the app, but haven't had a chance to try it, yet. Note that if you are leaving the anchor alarm app on overnight, you will want to have the iPhone or iPad plugged in - the GPS function needs to run for the anchor alarm, drawing down the battery of the device.

When you drag outside of the set range for your anchor swing, does the phone start sing "The dude Looks like Lady"? I mean how do you know? :?

Barry,

I can just see the headlines "Active Captain runs Android Drag Queen"

Actually active captain is doing a lot of good "stuff" right now

Happy Hols and may all your turkeys be stuffed.

Since I have an Android phone, I wait to hear the reports from the i-Phone users. As long as none of you experience enlarged breasts, shrinking Adam's apples or a frequent desire to go shoe shopping, I'll download it.

The cool thing is that the Android app runs from the exact same source code as the iPhone version. The different size Droid screens/tabs is making me do some user-interface adjustments when it starts up. That's the only reason for the Android delay. It works great on my Xoom right now. I intend to put in the Android Market for free within a month. I'll also be providing the full source code for it all with the hopes that someone will do more with it or just see how easy some of this GPS code is to write.

As for providing the desire to run around in high heels and tweezed eyebrows, well, I'll trade that entertainment from watching boats skid across the anchorages unaware!

DragQueen Anchor Alarm was added to the Android Market today. I'm packaging up the source now and should release it on Wednesday with our newsletter.

Would this function require the phone to be on using "data" all night. As in would that use up a 4mg data limit per month in a hurry.

Thanks,

From one who is just now considering a "smart (probably Android) phone".

Oh gosh, no. It uses absolutely no internet access for it's function. There's no reason for accessing the internet when it's just showing how far you are from the anchor. It requires the use of a real GPS connected (usually internal) and does no triangulation or any other method of getting position throughout the alarm period with any other radio.
