does it hurt my motor to sit in storage

Hi'
My honda 15 kicker has less then 50 hours on it and has been sitting in storage for a year or so. I flushed it out before putting it away. Does it hurt my motor to sit or should I be running it once in a while?

As long as you drained all the fuel lines and the carb bowls it should be fine. If I was going to store a kicker for a long time I would use a can of Fog on it. You just spray it in the carbs as its running until it dies, then drain the gas. Or just spray in the carbs as you are cranking the motor with no gas or spark wire hooked up. Then pull the spark plugs and spray in the hole before you put the plugs back in. This will coat the inside of the cylinder so you will not get any rust or corrosion. Use a can of de fog when you want to get it going again. Fuel and water are the two things that will damage a stored motor.
 
I agree with Tom about the fogging. However, in dry climate and if the engine was cared for with the low hours, it should be fine. However, if you want this in an emergency--you want to be sure it runs! Thus I always ran my kickers at least every month or so during the time I used the boat (which was year around...
 
I didnt know about fog, or I would have used it, but when I knew I wasn't going to be using one of my 9.9 mercs I just did the other things mentioned and hung it on a faux transom in my shop to keep it dry and away from the elements in an upright position. two years later it fired right up and I was fishing for trout two weekends ago.
