Are Dusty and I the only one's old enough on this site to remember?
It led to the death of hundreds of thousands of GI's, may they rest in peace.

The Oklahoma rolled over at its mooring on Battleship Row 66 years ago today, trapping the 429 men in an upside-down world. It was the second highest death toll after the USS Arizona.
Until now, there was no memorial on Ford Island to the men of the Oklahoma.
That will change at noon today when the $1.2 million black granite and white marble tribute to the fallen — paid for largely through contributions from Oklahoma corporations, foundations and residents — will be dedicated.
The Oklahoma dedication is one of several events on the 66th anniversary of the attack. More than 2,000 people are expected to attend the 7:55 a.m. observance at Kilo Pier at Pearl Harbor, the time when Japanese planes struck.

Here's to the 429 souls still on duty with the Oklahoma.

I'm no where close to being that old, but it was 66 yrs tomorrow that my grandfathers older brothers, all five, joined up to serve. Grandpa had to wait a few years. I have heard that there are only 15,000 WWII vets left. Any one know how true that is?

A number I have heard repeated in several places is that 1,000 - 1,200 WWII vets are dying per day now. If there were only 15,000 that would mean they'd be all gone in a couple weeks. There's got to be more than that left. C.W.

In 2006, the UC Census Bureau listed 3.9 million veterans of World War 2 as still being alive. Somewhere I had read that 1100 of them die per day. If that is true, there would be around 3.5 million living today.

They list only three WW-1 vets still living as of the 2nd of October 2007.

My hat is off to all who have served in our military.

Thank You

GOD BLESS THE U.S.A.

I can't help myself from piping in on this.

We should never forget the sacrifice of the "Greatest Generation" There aren't many left, lets hope we learn from them while we have the chance.

Too many take the freedom earned with their blood, for granted.
