The 14 x 40 Fujinon give you 5 degrees of stabilization vs the 3 degrees of the 12 x 32. I believe that this would be a significant difference--and perhaps one of the reasons that the more expensive, and larger binoculars use 4 AA batteries, rather than 2 AA batteries as in the smaller units.

This is not the only time that the "deals" have sold out after the active captain ads.

I love my 14 x 40--used them many times on Lake Powell. One of the times was when a chopper was affecting a rescue near Oak Canyon….probably saw some things I should not have seen!
 
I love my Jr 12x32....working great after many years hard use, much better than my Steiner Marine binocs in every regard. I respect Dr Bob's choice, and admit for the price differential the Sr is a good deal, maybe a better deal. I'll bring mine, and Dr Bob can bring his, to the Appalachicola gathering for a side by side comparison.
I can convince Eileen that we should get most any 'safety related' item, but the Jr is so good, and so much better than Steiner, that she just won't fly for the Sr model yet.
You will be amazed and gratified with either, guaranteed.
Come to the Gathering, and get your hands on both!

I'm thinking that there is some good oportunities for hds gen2 owners to, rather than switch to a gen3, add sonarhub to get chirp, and there is a $200 rebate on the sonarhub w/ tm150 xducer, which can be had for around $715 before the rebate if you shop around. $515 to upgrade to chirp would be a good move, I think, at least for me.

If you then spent $120 on a wifi1 unit you'd basically have an hds gen3. you could add an additional mfd in the cockpit (the gen2 are going very inexpensively now compared to a year ago) from an earlier vintage and preserve the updated functionality.
 
Greg, do you use that on the mc for routing, like going from here to there and it gives you turn by turn directions or a route map with where you are on the map so you know where to go?

I have one and use it on the CD for keeping track of my log times and distances. Have not used ot on land for routing.

This unit will route you on land and do turn by turn on the road if you put a road data chip in like I do on the cycle. For boating it only does waypoint style routing as the crow flys. I use one of these for kayaking with charts and boating with charts as a second unit always zoomed in quite close and I also use another one with road/topo data on the motorcycle. They have lighted keys, can be used with gloves, are waterproof, float, have a waterproof power connection, and even have tide and current data built in as well.

I use my Samsung Smart Phone for a GPS on my Harley. The mounting bracket was $19.00 on E-Bay. It works great and I can keep it charged with a 12V charger. I have used it on my bicycle too, but can't keep it charged! :)
