Congratulations on a great accomplishment Pat and Patty! I looked forward to reading all of your blog installments these past 8 months. What to do now? :D

Happy Birthday Patty. Great to have something really special to remember this day about. AND congratulations to you both for a trip well done. Oh, yes, there were some bumps and scrapes along the way, but that is just like life, and we learn to adapt, overcome and press on, OR we shrivel up, evaporate and blow away like the dust. You two and Daydream are fine examples of the way life should be lived. It has been great following along. OH, and Pat, don't give up on the blog until you're back home. The road is part of the trip. Wishing you all the best on that part too. (I'd love to drive it for you 'cause for me, the road is a great part of the trip. Stay safe, and watch the weather. Good travel windows are still a good thing.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for a wonderful vicarious adventure. Over the years we have cruised bits and pieces of the "Loop" and reading your blog reminded us of many happy times.

Congratulations and Happy Birthday Patty!! Well done!

Bumps and scrapes?? I don't know anybody that does not have some in any 8 month span. You can have them sitting at home or on an adventure. You chose the adventure! They will fade and blend into the fabulous memory of that adventure.

I've enjoyed looking forward to your blog - what to do now??

Pat, that mustache on Daydream is proudly earned. You may want to consider having it bronzed for posterity. :wink: You all did great, and the cat was NEVER off the boat. That is a pretty accomplished "boat cat" for sure. Be safe coming home. They are talking about feet of snow in the PNW mountains this week.

We enjoyed your posts and meeting you guys in Pensacola, and picking your brains re best practices on a small boat.
Hope to see you in Washington state one day on our boat! Godspeed and following winds on your trailering home.
We're in Washington, DC for a week doing the tourist thing, 8 miles walking today. Then Acela to NYC for a week touristing, 2 days on return to turn around and prep the boat for trailering to Key West for 5 weeks...retirement is so busy we wouldn't have time to work if we wanted to!

A few days late, but Pat and Patty finally get to make a proper "toast" for Patty's birthday and the crossing of their wake.

We had a wonderful time at Camp Thataway with Bob and Marie each of the THREE times we stopped there - once on the tow down, once in the boat on the Loop, and once on the tow home! Thanks, Bob and Marie! Baxter says "woof" to Angel!

We left Pensacola yesterday and made it across Alabama, Mississippi and most of Louisiana (we stopped at a casino 4 miles short of the Texas border). Three state in one day. Now we are in Texas, and it is looking like ONE state in THREE days, or probably more like two and a half days!

So far, not too bad! We are now in the Hill Country in Kerrville, and it is actually fairly scenic! We will be out of Texas early the day after tomorrow!
 
Texas is large and diverse, and there are some very pretty areas (we are quite partial for the Gulf Coast); Hill Country has a lot of history besides the scenic hills. West Texas (about 500 miles along I-10) has some rugged high plains, even some mountains, and not a lot of population. Having driven that stretch many times, we do make it a point to "get through it" as it is frequently windy and dusty. Go a bit south and you have the Big Bend area (Big Bend National Park) which has some striking canyons and mountainous areas along the Rio Grande. But, rolling along I-10, it can be a bit barren looking. The speed limit across west Texas is 80 mph, but I sure don't recommend that while towing (trailer tires aren't speed rated for that).

Across New Mexico, it is mostly high plains along I-10, then into more hills again in Arizona. With Pat and Patty looking to make miles, this is the most direct routing to get to AZ.

And then plenty of miles north to get back to WA.

With the boat heavy loaded, keep a close eye on tire pressure and bearing temps (did you refresh the bearing grease after the trailer sat in Florida?).

Sending good vibes for an uneventful trek back to the PNW!
 
Pat and Patty, So the next adventure is in progress. Travel safe and enjoy this portion too. Yup it is a different type, but road trip is part of the true C-Dory culture, and you have already been there too, Lake Powell, Yakima :roll: and others. You will be fine. Congrats on a real loop finishing.

GCJohn, Sounds like you are doing your retirement proud. Enjoy doing the cities and the tourist stuff.

We spent several hours in Labelle getting ready to roll. Took down the camperback canvas, put fenders and lines in the truck, and yes, lubed the hubs, among other things. We also have an infrared instant read thermometer to check the temps on the hubs. The tires got fully inflated at Camp Thataway.

San Antonio is kind of interesting - you can't just "stay on I-10," you have to take an exit or two to do that, and then pick "Upper Level" or "Lower Level." If we were in the Alaskan Camper, we might have gone back to the Alamo - the last time we saw that was 1968! We also probably would have stopped at the Caverns of Sonora, we really enjoyed the Karchner Caverns in AZ last year.

I-10 in West Texas is NO PLACE to run our of fuel! We are driving off the top half of the tank here! A lot of the way between Kerrville and Sonora, there is no cell service either!
