Hello. This is Dave Hogue's daughter-in-law. I know Dave posted on this web-site many times and he loved reading posts. He also loved his R-21 he recently purchased.
Dave passed away this past Saturday night, on 7-7-07 while working on his beloved boat. He was at his lakehouse and had gone down to get in the water to find out what was wrapped around his prop. He got in the water and swam around to the back of the boat. He was holding on to the boat and letting his feet float up when a fish hook caught him in the foot. It was a rather large fish hook and it went right through his water shoe and into his foot. His friend, who was working with him at the time asked him what was the matter, and he told him that his foot was stuck. His friend swam around and dove under the water to see why his foot was stuck when he found the hook. He cut Dave loose, and right after that, Dave slipped into unconsciousness. He was wearing a life jacket, so he never went under water. A police boat "happened" to be right by there at that exact moment, so his friend waved them over. They and some young men from a house nearby came over and got Dave out of the water and laid him out on the dock when our other neighbors came over and started CPR on him. The police had some equipment on board and they started working on him too. The ambulance arrived and took him away to the hospital where he died about an hour and a half later.
In retrospect, I remember that we passed by a boat that was trolling (spelling?) with many fishing lines in the water, so we must have gotten tangled up in a fishing line then. He never heard the odd noise until we went in reverse.
Dave died in his most favorite place in the world, his lakehouse, doing his favorite hobby, his boat. We feel he didn't suffer, and that's exactly what he always told us he wanted.
His wife, his son and myself all feel at peace that this was all a part of God's great plan. Dave died for a reason, but we know that we will all see him again someday, because, you see, Dave was saved. He knew without a doubt where he was going - to Heaven. He knew he could never do enough good things, say enough good things, pray enough or read the Bible enough to get to Heaven. That's why, in 1989, he accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. He knew he was a sinner. He knew he needed to be saved from going to Hell for his sins. He put his faith in and believed that Jesus Christ, God's only perfect Son, died as a perfect sacrifice for his sins. As a result of what he did in 1989, he is in Heaven today. He has a perfect body today - no more arthritis, no more diabetes, no backaches, no pains.
I'm without a doubt absolutely positive that he would have wanted me to post this on this web-site.
If YOU don't know where you are going when you die, you can know today! Jesus died for YOU. He can be your own personal savior. He can save you from your sins if you let him. It's as easy as ABC - Accept the fact that you are a sinner, Believe that Jesus Christ died as a perfect sacrifice for your sins, and Confess the Lord as your personal Savior.
