Couple brats in trouble

As ve write this one brat is waiting for coast guard to go help, out of whittier and another grounded boat needing a tug as next high tide wasn't enough to float boat. This was gleened from local site where locals are having fun with these situations. apparently no life is in danger.

That link is certainly interesting to read. But the entire mechanical issue, comes back to having a kicker. I belive that it is actually better than a dual engine set up. Here is why:

1. Kicker can be steered by hand, if you loose the steering.

2. Kicker can be started by pull rope, and does not need any electricity

3. Kicker can be run off a separate fuel source, esp. if main tank is contaminated.

No matter where or when we go out, we need to be prepard for survival. The point is well taken that it is not right to put rescuers at risk, to not put people or animals who cannot fend for themselves at risk.

But I do draw the line at having...shot every dog I have owned after they have outlived their usefullness. I must have a different prospective on dogs....

While this whole PWS thing can be bad, everyone knows mechanical failures happen any time, but seem like they happen most when it is really crummy out. As far as the grounding, I have been at the hatchery and this is probably one of those groundings that happen when the anchor lets loose - especially places like there where there is not much swing room and gets really strong wind. Talk about no fun. This could be any one of us I guess, but you don't see my butt out there this time of year.

I'm with Bob-

My preference is main and kicker (but we'll install whatever a customer wants ;) ).

And I have had to put down dogs- and it's never been easy, and never because their "usefulness has expired". In my mind, they never outlive their usefulness, their bodies just wear out sooner than we would like.

Just an FYI -
The guy (Alasgun) who made the comments about putting down every dog he ever owned on that link is one of the very few people to ever have been booted from this site.

I wondered about that. In his old posts on this site, he is now listed as a guest with no profile. I guess the posts that resulted in the booting must have been removed.

After reading the comments on the Alaska site to what Alasgun said about shooting dogs when they have "outlived their usefulness", it doesn't sound like he is well received on that forum either.

Minor correction. The gentleman in question was not booted from the site; rather, he asked to be removed.

I stand corrected. He definitely has some talents - design and fabrication being the highlights.

So OK.... which of our C-Dory owners was this? C-Brat or not?

Byrdman

It's not this C-Dory owner, the TripleJ is tucked away for the winter next to the garage. By middle of September I’ve had my fun, and not willing to deal with the shorter days and unpredictable weather of PWS. By mid January I’m chomping at the bit to get back in the water, and by early April weather permitting we’ll take to the water again.
Best of luck to our fellow C-dory adventures, I hope they’ve made it home in one piece…it’s mighty nasty out there right now.
