Cost of shipping a 22 from CA to Midwest

Does anyone have an idea of cost of shipping a CD 22 from CA to the Midwest? MI specifically. Do shippers load onto trailer or is boat towed on trailer? I expect costs are going up with gas prices.

Don't know who to call. Thanks for any info.
 
What part of Ca. is the boat located? I can give you a list of several that do moving and storage if you give me the general area and if it is close to me I will check them out for you. I know that all the rates have increased over last year, I shipped a 1949 Mercury to Michigan from Ca. in a closed hauler a few years ago and I think the guy probably paid around $2,000 door to door.--------- Rich
 
JD, my understanding is that it costs alot less when they ship two C-Dory 22's at a time. I have been told a single boat, like the CD 25 could cost $5,000 to the Kansas, Oklahoma area over a year ago. Soooo, I am worried about what a heavier C-Ranger 25 is going to cost.

As for me, I am in a situation where the boat will be picked up at the C-Ranger factory somewhere near Seattle, WA, and dropped off around Tulsa, OK. JOhn
 
I am contemplating in regards to 2006 CD for sale in Oakland. Would be nice to ship with another and pay less but not an option. I live in N MI, 1 hour south of Mackinaw City.

I'd ask around my circle of fellow boaters and friends. That's what I did and came up with a guy and his diesel pickup who was just looking for a paid road trip. He had a great time getting Minnie Swann in Spokane and delivering her to Minneapolis. That was 4 years ago and I paid him $800.00 and had someone who cared about the boat do it. Yes.... getting to and from used C-Dory boats is part of the "fun." Even if you figure a very basic 44.5 cents a mile for a round trip (estimated 5200 miles), using todays IRS/Gvt mileage reimbursment rate... you are looking at over $2300....and that does not include meals, hotel bills, or other cost that "just happen" when traveling. And... based on your tow vehicle, your MPGs are for sure going to drop big time when you hook the rig up. Looks to be about a 6-9 day round trip depending on how hard core of a driver/travel time you "enjoy.".....and how the weather effects your trips. Should not be an issue this time of year for ice....but rain, wind and fog are every day issues all year round.

So... having said that.... you could give $2300 more for a "like vessel" in your area and still be true dollars....and time ahead.
 
The "Charge" to deliver my Tom Cat 255 from Washington to Florida--about 2800 miles, was $2500. This was with another boat on the hauler--and no trailer.

If you go to Uship,you should be able to find a hauler for about $1.50 a mile or so....

When I looked into shipping my 27 last year from North Texas to Fall City it was going to be around $3500. So I paid my son to drive my truck round trip to pick it up and spent almost the same amount. However I had someone who cared about the end result.
 
Give the railroad a try. I know it's not their normal cargo but it should fit easily. You could have it shrink wrapped for the trip.

Speaking of the railroad.... I have a motorhome and have seen ads for a "Rails" program where they put your pickup and camper, or motorhome , on a flatbed railcar and you travel thru the mountains to the coasts of Mexico, Canada, etc..

I wonder if one could arrange a C-Dory "Rails" trip like that? I mean, if they can put a pickup and camper trailer on the railcar, what's the difference between that an a C-Dory? Something like that could make coastal touring better for us far away... Probably would cost too much, but interesting. John

I tried CA boat movers... their guys are all out buliding houses (?) I was told! However, they gave me the name of another transporter... Joel Boat Movers. $2250 to take the boat from Oakland, CA to Charlevoix, MI. But boat must be loaded on & unloaded at owner's expense. My local boat shop will do it for $250. Very informative... still contemplating economics of buying with this expense.

If you're seriously considering purchasing the (practically Brand New) CD-22 in Oakland at the fully equipped price of $47,450 + shipping costs of $2,500, that's a great deal IMHO. According to my calculations, that's under $50,000 ($49,950) for a practically brand new boat, which is less than we paid a year ago with boat show pricing. Plus, we've put in so much more in the past year outfitting the boat the way we like it.
As far as I can see, you're way ahead of the game even with the additional shipping costs :D
