I am getting a Cock-Pit cover installed next Tuesday. I did a search but could not find any Cock-pit cover pictures showing the row of rivets attached to the roof. Are the rivets installed on the edge of the roof or under the lip on the bulkheads' top. I also bought two Cock-pit floodlight, will there still be enough room to install these with the Cockpit cover in place. Thanks Tug
 
Our canvas has a plastic track glued to the roof just fwd of the aft edge of the cabin, and the fwd edge of the bimini slides into it from the side. works pretty slick.

Do not put "rivets" or snaps on the roof. Use an awning rail. This is either plastic or aluminum. Most folks use plastic now. There is a "bolt rope" of vinyl which slides into the awning rail.
 
I will instruct the installer to use an plastic awning rail, i was not familiar with these.. Thanks Tug
 
I had another question...do you also use a plastic rail on the sides of the cabin as well or just the top. Thanks Tug
 
Tug- Just on the top. Snaps everywhere else.

Has anyone had problems with the bolt/rope of vinyl tearing .....i noticed yesterday that the vinyl bolt had a tear in it...it did not separate from the canvas but tore within itself...not good...it was installed with the vinyl bolt extending an inch or so past the end of the rail on both ends and that's where it tore......Is it correct to assume that the bolt should be flush with the rail at the rail ends. I am bringing it back for repair next Monday.Thanks Tug
 
There are several different bolt rope materials. No, they should not tear. I have never had one tear. But, they should not extend beyond the railing. The pull on the bolt rope needs to be consistant.

I missed the question about the awning rail on the sides. Most of the time, the studs or snap posts are put on the side, but on our Tom Cat we put the vinly awning railing on the side of the cabin to keep water out--and it does work much better than the snaps. BUT, this is for a camper back, not a slant back cocpit cover. I would stick with the snaps.

I wonder if there is uneven stress on the canvas back--look carefully for stress lines, where there is more pressure. I would replace the bolt rope. It should be on the canvas shop's dime.
 
Got my CockPit cover back today..they replaced the vinyl rope and put extra supporting material on the ends. The bolt doesn't extend past the rail now. Was looking for different/stronger bolt/rope material on-line but didn't find any.....they said if i buy some they will put it on.They charged me $ 20.00 today...not free but i can live with that. Tug
 
How about some detail photos of the cockpit cover; attachment points, close-ups and such. Would like to see how the cover is attached and all. My local guy wants about $600 to make one. :shock: That's not going to happen any time soon. What is the cost for a cockpit cover these days?

It is back to the shop on July 27th to get my cockpit cover repaired again. The new vinyl bolt tore along with three seams.I bought some Keder rope to replace the vinyl rope so i hope it works better. I want her to add four inches to the lenght and width of the cover because it is too tight. I need some wiggle room in the boat when i am snapping in the cover.I will take some pictures if i remember this time. Tug

Just a thought...i think Sigourney Weaver filmed Aliens in my boat...there are some gigantic spiders living all over the boat. The other day i went to grab the VHF microphone and there was huge spider resting on the mic...so much for that call......lifted the cowling off the Suzuki to check the oil level and this huge spider walked out....must be all the high humidity we have been having...never seen so many spiders......not sleeping on my boat until winter.. ha!ha!

We have spiders all over the marina at Bridge Bay here on Lake Shasta. I was considering giving them names........... maybe a Spider Circus.......?

There is a two part solution to the problem:

1. INSIDE THE CABIN- Use a "no pest strip" or equivalent to kill 'em when you're gone. Just leave the strip and come back and clean the dead ones out. Put the strip in a plastic zip-loc bag when you're on board, and keep your foodstuffs sealed to keep the toxics out, etc.

2. Roger (Dreamer) gave me the name of a spider-chasing pesticide to spry the boat with (which I can't remember off the top of my head and the bottle is at the lake).

Use as directed, and spray all the entire boat and marina structure (like your locker) where spiders build nests. Mine lasts for two or more months. Spray three times a year, ~ May, July, September. ='s NO SPIDERS! ( No spraying during winter spider dormant season.) Use minimally, harmful to fish in excess, etc.

Maybe Roger will see this and add in the trade name of the agent (?)
