Roger,

Those pictures are great advertisement for the Cobb grill :thup :thup

I just got off the :phone with West Marine in Fort Walton Beach to verify the price (69.88 minus 30% = 48.91) and to make sure they had a grill in stock.

West Marine is holding us one and Nancy is on her way over to pick it up.

Now to find one of those Boston butts!!

OK how are you getting that price? I don't have a West Marine anywhere near me, but would love to get one at that price.

Yeah, if you could pick one up at the $48 price I'd be glad to pay the tax and shipping. Let me Know, thanks, Greg

OK, I'll go today and see if I can get it.

Roger

Great, thanks Roger![/quote]

Greg, I have your grill. PM me your shipping address and I'll get it out to you.

Roger

Hi Greg. Your grill is in the mail. What a small world. You live on the other side of the park from my brother. He's on Sunset. I'm sure I have dirven down your street at some time when I've been to Louisville..

This really shows the strength of this community, Roger went out of his way to get one of these grill for me because I don't have a West Marine near me.
Thanks Roger, I included a little taste of Kentucky with your check for the grill, hope you enjoy it.

Greg

I called WM's 800 number to ask about the grill. Yep, $69.88... nope, no additional discount for catalog orders. I asked the young lady if they could be consistent with the price in the stores, and she said, "We don't know what the stores are selling them for, but this is our price." I have her the link here, she checked with her supervisor... nope.

I've never grilled with charcoal - always been a propane kinda guy. Anyone using these on the boat? Any additional work or mess? How does it compare to the Magma grills?

Maybe it's still worth ordering at the $69.88 price?

TIA

Best wishes,
Jim B.

On edit: I ordered one online... after taking my credit card and churning for a while, it dropped me offline. When I signed back in, it showed that I had ordered the grill... and it is "back ordered." On a clearance item. Not a good sign. The WM website shows "in stock." And, after looking at the photo of that meat, my mouth is watering!

When we rented Marc Grove's 25 Cruise Ship last year there was one of these jewels on board. It worked great on an ice chest in the cockpit. The outside of the grill produced no significant heat at all plus you not only grill but fry or bake. As mentioned before it only takes a handfull of briquets and uses a stick fuel as a starter.

Jim, not as fast as a propane grill but does more and is probably safer. By the way, where are you and Joan these days?

Nice review. :thup :D Now, I am really looking forward to using one of these. We are still in the beautiful Black Hills. Riding our motorcycle and playing tourist. Reading the posts here really helps our current boatless status. Of course, this thread just cost me $69.88 + shipping... but it has to be better than the over-cooking Magma we've been using for years.

I was told $69 was sale price. Then when it came up as clearance item that was additional 30% making it $48.91.

Yesterday, thw WM on Davis Hwy here in Pensacola still had one left on the shelf.

Yes- When I bought mine, it was on sale for $69. Since they were having a "sidewalk" sale, it was 30% off---- $49.

I have used it twice at home---- works good.

Don't know if anyone here has tried them yet, but Bi-Mart carries a unique briquet that is sort of circular and one fits perfectly in the cob. I forget the name. They really work well, and have a built-in starting substance that burns off immediately. Way easier and cleaner than carrying around the briquets. They are a little expensive though. Something like $3 for two. But they last at least as long as the regular briquets, long enough to do a roast easily. I have been having really good luck doing the rib-in chicken breasts. Don't even need to turn them.

How do you light your charcoal in the Cobb? I use a chimney for my home Weber charcoal BBQ, and also starter fluid. The chimney is too big to take on board and I wonder about the safety of the starter fluid.

When I used briquets I used one of those fire sticks, kind of a parafin/sawdust stick. Worked fine. I think the name of the briquets I am now using from Bi-Mart is LOKI. They have a starter substance built in that flares a bit for a few seconds then the whole thing is lit and ready to go.

I bought a Cobb about 6 months ago because of the recommendations on the site and I really love it. I paid $69 at West on sale. Well last week a buddy and his wife were visiting they are full timers in a 40' diesel pusher and we cooked a chicken on the Cobb and he wanted one. As it happened he left before we went shopping for one for him. Today I went by West to find out they are closing down the store because of a newer larger one being built and many things were 30 to 50% off. As I was browsing around I saw a Cobb and the price was $38.99 so I grabbed it for my Buddy. Don't know if they are discounted in all West Stores but it may be worth checking this is a heck of a deal.

You got a great deal Marvin. I took mine on the Western Lakes Grand Slam trip and used it just about everyday. Everyday that is except when Ken showed up with his fantastic smoked salmon or Chris had his grilled Quail. :) :smilep

Today I went back to West Marine and bought the last three Cobb's they had at $37.79 a piece. I'm sending one to Bill Uffelman in Vegas and have one that isn't spoken for. If anyone wants it PM me and I'll send it to you for the $37.79 + shipping. UPS says shipping to California is about $20 depending on the zip code. They are in a 13X12X11 box which weighs 10 pounds. This may be the first deal I ever got at West Marine :)

I sent the one I got for another c-brat in the USPS flat rate box for about $10. You might check that out.

Roger

Thanks Roger I'll check that out tommorrow. The one I had left is going to Nick of Valkerie. There's actually 4 West Marines in town and I didn't check one of them today so if I'm able to get anymore I'll post.

Marvin,

Thanks for thinking of your fellow C-Brats and including me in this great deal. I'm looking forward to checking it out when it gets here.

I hope to make it down your way sometime and maybe we can do some fishing together.

Regards,

Nick

Grills are in the mail and pm's sent wish I could have gotten about a half dozen more at that price but thats apparently the last of them and West is going to no longer carry them. Best on line price I've seen was $99.
