What's a good Seattle/ Puget Sound CG number to put in the cell phone.? Thanks.

I had always heard that #24 or #cg ( same thing) would work. I just tried it and it worked just fine. So make that a speed dial number and your all set.

I may be off on this, but I thought it used to be STAR 24 (*24) to call the USCG on your cell phone. Because it was under-utilized, that program was supposedly discontinued. If it still works in your area, it's a bonus. Our local USCG station is listed in the phone book. I also had their phone number on my latest "good as gold" sheet.

I am going from memory on the above, so if someone has solid info to refute me, I have no problem eating my words.

Best wishes,
Jim

Marty, the number is 206-217-6000. If the method Tom gave you works, that is even better.

I thought it was *24 and tried that first but its #24 here and it worked great. got a recording push for whatever and then I hung up before I wasted anyones time. real easy to check where ever you are.

Thanks a lot. I just got a new cell phone and thought I would enter it.

Another good number to have readily available is 877 24WATCH which is the national number for Americas Waterway Watch. This is for reporting environmental issues, security issues etc.

In the Puget Sound region, especially Straits of Juan deFuca, a direct number for reporting emergencies and security concerns is the Port Angeles USCG Search and Rescue desk. 360-417-5840. Definitely not for routine chit-chat!
