Cheap dinghy motor

Very reminiscent of the "mighty mite" --basically a weed eater motor on top of a gear train of some type.

I suspect this will be un-reliable, hard to start, and noisy. How about parts and service? I suspect it will be a throwaway.

I notice CE (European certification--how about CARB? (US certification).

Read the reviews--read about salt water use : "Anti rust screws?"...that is a new one.

Spend your $300, or buy a good used motor for $300?

Jason,

Since you are buried in snow currently. Go ahead and buy it, have it dropped ship to me and I will use it monthly and put a report here. If It works out, I'll send it on to you after about 12 reports. :D

Thanks I'll PM you my shipping address.

Hahahahaha!

$300???

From the listing:

"Price: $1,150.00 & FREE Shipping"

Am I missing something?

Or did they change the price just for us here in Northern California in the FLOOD ZONE??? :smileo
(I'm in Redding, no flood zone yet!)

That is not unusual with these "hong Kong fury" advertisers. I found a similar motor (different weed eater motor) for $88.95, from a different vender, if you really want one like it!

Personally I would not order anything like this from "blue-Sky"--February-Sky..outfit. They seem to also specialize in PVC inflatable glue (probably a big seller for their puncture prone inflatables), virtual reality glasses, fake apple type watches, etc...

The trick is to checkout the importer, then click on links to similar items...Whole new world out there!

Single or twins?

Joe. :teeth :thup

You could probably afford twins if you made them yourself. A trip to the dollar tree store.

1/ a drain auger -- $6.00

2/ C clamp -------$2.00

3/ Fan blade -------$1.00

4/ Crazy glue -----$10.00

Or sell it for $119.00 like these guys and us the profit to buy a real motor. :P

Joe, TWINS for sure :thup :thup

Light weight, good manual control, hard to beat, Unless your arms are tired. Maybe set it up for bicycle peddling.

 NO Motor makes it legal for the Race to Alaska row/sail assist.

While you are at it you can also pick up a Matsutec AIS transponder on Amazon for $399. Is it legal to sell in the US? No.

why not? I dont see or can find anything about why you cant. Please lead me in the right direction. and who would that be able to tell if you are using one?? Who would be able to tell and why would they care?

Tom it gets down to using non FCC approved electronics in the US. The ham community is running into this with the in-expensive VHF radios which come directly from China. Some are good, Some are not--and will drift off frequency.

I doubt that anyone would find out--but if the transmitter was off frequency, that could be picked up by any one who has a frequency meter.

There are all kinds of good products which are "legal" in Europe--but the main stream manufacturer s can not sell them here until the approval process (be it FCC or FDA etc) is complied with. But I bet you know that!

I assume that the Matsutec AIS transponder is not approved for the USA, either by the FCC or some other US agency. I don't know, but their ad on e-bay doesn't say approved.

So if you use it and it meets all the AIS requirements such as spectrum, coding, etc, no-one will be able to identify the equipment. But if it doesn't meet those requirements, especially frequency, everyone in your area will know.

I've noticed that a lot of electronic equipment from China comes to you without the USA agency approvals. I've been looking at a Chinese solar panel inverter, but decided against it. Sure, all our electronics is made in China, but it does have to pass some acceptance tests before it's approved, such as RF emissions.
