CD22 Passenger Maximum Capacity

Greetings,
My wife and I are thinking about purchasing a 22 Cruiser and I have been lurking on this site and enjoying the wisdom and obvious passion of you CD owners.
I have a question I haven't found answered in searching the topics.
What is the Coast Guard's maximum capacities for the CD22 cruiser?
Number of passengers and weight as shown on the label on the helm.
Thanks
Jim

I believe that the capacity plate only applies to outboard powered boats less than 20 feet in lenght.

A formula often cited is lenght over all x beam divided by 15 is the number of people safely carried in a boat. For the C Dory 22: would be 11 people. The Coast Guard used to allow 140 lbs for a vessel in protected waters to 160 lbs for general boating. This was based on 1960's weights (haven't we all gained since then?). Currently the accepted weight is 185 lbs for stablity purposes.

I don't know exactly what the number should be--but if you assume that the old "formula" was 30% off, then 8 people would be the max. This is addressed in Title 46 Code of Federal Regulations sub chapters K and T.

Yep, you can put folks on it until the bilge pump(s) begin to run. I'd recommend doing that pierside however. And all 25 of the folks on board should wear life jackets...

Personally, I'd feel comfortable with 4 adults and a couple of kids, one small dog and an unlimited number of cats. Have had all but the cats on Captain's Choice...

The most I've ever had on board by CD-22 Cruiser was 6, including the skipper. The boat handled fine, if difficult to balance with 4 at the dinette table. 8 would be a realistic limit, less for rougher water. Joe.

To over load a 22 in people weight it would have to be like sardines in a can. We've had 6 and a child on a good weather day trip on Flaming Gorge reservoir. No problem with weight, but close to limit on space. Have had much more weight aboard on the Inland Passage with 100 gal fuel, full water and all the other stuff for an extended cruise with no concern about the weight. Boat road and handled well in all conditions. Just had to keep things balanced.

Our concern in weight is more towards prop match for engine rpm when running variable weights and altitude.
