100% correct!

But it takes about 5 years with a boat and motor or the equivalent amount of time to reach that point where you can sense it, and the loading of the boat can change everything quickly.

Green with Envy, Joe.

Don't let Caty fool ya, there are some horrendous traffic jams in Jefferson Oregon. Why I once remember four cars, in a row, when these sheep crossed the road. Then there's always that unimaginative deputy sitting down from the school waiting for me to go more than 20 in that school zone, in the dead of night, in August when there are no school kids.

Here is a shot of the boat taken a couple of hours ago.

Stuffy in the cabin with the door closed? Need ventilation without bugs getting in? Don't want to deal with a screened canvas enclosure?

One slick solution. It snaps completely out of the way until needed, then release the tabs and it zips closed. No snaps to go in or out. I left it half closed so you can see it.

Beautiful boat, Don. Having just purchased a new one, I know how all those things you have added to make your boat special can really tack on the $$$. Someone is going to get a spectacular turn-key boat. Good luck with the sale.

Best wishes,
Jim B.

Thanks, James. You are correct. Most people who have never done it have no idea how expensive boat options, accessories and even minor details can be. It adds up in a hurry. They also mostly don't realize what a hassle fitting out a new boat can be. :? This one is pretty well sorted and only 20 hours past its initial 20 hour service. Covered berth in fresh water.

I spoke to the GM for the C-Dory dealer on Friday. He had previously mentioned several price increases since we bought ours.

I asked him what a new '06 would be, on a trailer with no options. He quoted me a sale last week. A 25 cruiser on a trailer. A single 150 Honda. No kicker. No guides or spare on the trailer. No aft control station. No electronics.(including no radio or stereo) No canvas . No swim platform. Cheap danforth anchor with minimal rode. No compass.

Basically a stripper. Price--$86K

On mine, just the aft control station and canvas was $11K.

Hope you enjoy your new boat, James.

Don

Some of the stuff on my boat is not really necessary, just nice to have. Such as the aft control station. It can turn a dicey situation into a piece of cake, though.

Case in point. Yesterday I put the boat back in the water. Our marina has no launching ramp, so I had to use one about ten miles away. Mid-day on a Saturday at a busy marina is not the best time to launch if you don't like crowds.

Once off the trailer, there was barely room to tie up. Many other boats coming and going and only two small docks. Unlike most marinas, the two lanes were not divided into launching or retrieving.

The breeze which blew out last week's heat was gusting above 20 kts., abeam.

Narrow channel from dock to deep water. Sheds with berths on both sides, separated by about 40-50 feet. Wind was REALLY gusting in the gaps between sheds. Not as much room as it sounds, with boats coming and going.

I was alone, so getting away from the dock and out through the clustered boats would be tricky. With engine running I removed the bow line, stepped onto the boat and did the same to the stern line. Using the aft control station, there was no delay for the wind to grab the boat, and I was able to back it out through the tangle of other boats and into the little channel.

I stayed aft until I got clear of others, then turned the boat and went to the forward station.

It's not that this had required any great seamanship. There was no current or wave action as in some places. Still, knowing the C-Dory's tendency to weather-vane in a crosswind, a lot of unwary folks could have been embarrassed.

It's at times like that, and some far worse than that, when I'm very happy I have the aft station.
