C-Ranger 25

I hope some of you expectant C- Ranger owners can answer this question for me. Specs on the Ranger 25 are scarce as hens teeth.

What type and location exhaust does it have?

The prototype had a dry exhaust pipe sticking out the faux stack and I've seen some sort of opening just above the water line on the port side foward of the swim step in a factory photo.

Anyone know?

TIA,

Law

Seeker , the "dry" exhaust was a ,shall we say "decorative unit" on the stack . The Stack as far as I know is something that does nothing functional and can be eliminated altogether .I had a customer ask about it and I called the factory and got the lowdown . The words Disney and truckstop chrome shop came up in the conversation . The real exhaust is wet .

Law - there is another thread with the same Subject line, C-Ranger 25, that has 5 pages of posts on it right here. There is nothing that says there can't be two threads with the same subject line, but it could get confusing!

WOW.... I thought I had double vision going on this morning. So we can have more than one thread with the exact same name... oppps.

Guess our wonderful mangers of our site and do a cut-n-paste on this... and get it all in the same one thread... I guess there is no way of really knowing if there is a thread already named something...

OPPPS!!! Please accept my apologies. This was totally unexpected. Combining the threads would be fine with me.

Pat - thanks for the link.

Wefings -Thanks for the info. I do wish it were a dry exhaust.

Byrdman - I too thought I had double vision when I saw it this morning

Does any one know if a commercial hydraulic anchor spool could be mounted on the fore deck? We really need about 600' of anchor rode up here for bottom fishing, but difficult to store all that line on a small boat.

I'm thinking a hydraulic pump off the diesel engine could serve that and a pot puller, steering, and trim tabs. I know this is a lot to put on a little boat, but I'd like to know.

It looks as if it would be cramped on the foredeck, but a platform could be built of glass or aluminum, for a hyraulic reel. These are generally quite large but are seen in some of the smaller trollers occaionally. Check with Fisheries Supply in Seattle to find what is available. I doubt if the factory would supply the parts or even put in the hoses (based on my experience with C Dory--but it may be different with the C Rangers--it is much easier to run lines before the hull and deck are joined!)

If you did that, consider putting in a hydraulic thruster.

I have anchored in 100 feet of water in the PNW, and brought the first 400 feet of nylon 3 strand by hand, then used the windlass for the 200 feet of chain...But that was in a much larger vessel. A reel winch would be handier.

Seeker - that 'dummy' midship stack concerned me too. I could not see how a hot exhaust could be easily or safely run from an aft engine compartment to amidships and rise thru the open cabin.

The C-Ranger comes with trim tabs and hydraulic steering.

Also, having fished on the Gulf of Mexico on various hull styles:

I think the deep, anchored type of fishing you are discussing could best be carried out on a TomCat 255 - a huge cockpit, two 4 foot, macerating fishwells, and much much more stable than a deep vee.

Second best would be a large, flatter bottom style single hull like the CD-25

Unless the aft quarters are flatter than I am thinking, the C-Ranger 25 hull style might have alot more wallow and roll while at anchor. Also, the high forward structure is going to make it a real sailer while anchored.
